After engine work on the T-28. This is after 1 hour of flight time on its way home. No oil leaks. It is nice when history finds its way to the proper caretakers!!! Enjoy your new airplane!!!!!

The reason the T-28 came in for some engine work is because during the pre-buy engine run you could watch the oil run out of the pushrod tubes. Some people’s mentality is that it is an old radial and it is supposed to leak. Fact of the matter no it isn’t. You will get it out of the exhaust when you pull it through before start up and maybe a few minor pesky leaks here and there but never an actual leak that cover the motor and propeller with oil to the point it drips off!!! Next post you will see a difference.

Unfortunately things don’t always go as you would like. All new gaskets and seals and there is still a leak. Time to disassemble , inspect and try again.

Valve clearance is supposed to be .010 at top dead center. Check out this clearance!!!

All pushrod tube seals, and rocker cover gasket replaced. A bit of a job. It is amazing what you find while you work after other people. The one picture is a top metal pushrod tube gasket and I found that they tried to use safety wire in its place. Explains why it was leaking.
