Contract talks are a stressful time for every pilot family, and given the length of most traditional bargaining cycles, this takes a significant toll on pilots and their loved ones. For this reason, the NJASAP developed the Family Awareness Program to support our families during this trying time. Specifically, the program is intended to:
- Cultivate a strong pilot family network. We begin that pr
ocess by sponsoring social events that are, by design, both fun and informative. They encourage pilot families to forge acquaintances and friendships with the intent of building a community that supports each and every member.
- Educate pilot families about the process of contract talks. The Railway Labor Act or RLA governs negotiations for railway and aviation professionals. In the traditional process, which is currently playing out between NJASAP and NetJets, talks usually become highly contentious and protracted as the parties work to reach agreement.
- Inform pilot families about the status of talk. Contract talks often lead to feelings of fear, uncertainty and doubt – feelings that are often shared with family members and loved ones. Knowledge is power, and we want families to understand exactly where we are every step of the way.
