Welcome back to Dog Gone Adventure! In this video, Merlin the Daniff and Bruce the Cattle Dog mix are getting some much-needed free-range running time as we hike the beautiful Mountain Streams Trail near Hidden Valley, PA.

After stretching their legs and burning off some energy on the trails, the dogs found a perfect mountain stream to splash around in and cool their paws off.

History of the Trail & Area:
If you love exploring the past, this area is steeped in local Pennsylvania industrial history!

The Mountain Streams Trail is located within Forbes State Forest.

The trail actually follows sections of old logging lines, including the Blair Brothers Railroad grade and parts of the Indian Creek Valley Railroad.

During the early 1900s, this region was heavily utilized for logging and coal mining.

The woods are full of old tram roads that were originally built to haul massive logs out of the forest using small locomotives and horse-drawn railroad cars.

Today, what used to be old farm fields and industrial tracts are beautifully reverting back into a natural hardwood forest, making it a scenic and peaceful place to explore.

Beating the summer heat with mountain heights and freezing cold waters! ☀️🚙

Today, the Dog Gone Adventure pack is back in the Laurel Highlands for an action-packed loop hike and a scenic off-road drive in the Nissan Xterra. We started our day conquering a beautiful section of the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trailhead, trekking through the deep woods until we popped out at a spectacular, sweeping rock overlook. The view looks directly down over the town of Normalville and the surrounding valleys—it's absolutely breathtaking!

To switch things up, we hiked back along a quiet, shaded gravel forestry road to complete our loop and headed back to the Xterra. Because it was a scorching hot day, we immediately took the rig down the winding forest roads to Forbes State Forest, Blue Hole. This legendary mountain swimming hole is famous for its crystal-clear, icy-cold water. While Bruce and Tula dipped their paws, Merlin didn't hesitate for a second—he launched his giant self right into the freezing water to cool down!

To cap off a perfect summer day, we took the scenic route home, cruising the mountain passes right past Seven Springs Mountain Resort.

This 4th of July, our hike took a turn into total darkness! 🔦🦅

Today on Dog Gone Adventure, we packed up the 4x4 Ford Sportsmobile camper van and headed out to the famous Big Savage Tunnel on the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP). It was a scorching hot Independence Day, and our plan was simple: walk through the tunnel to catch the legendary scenic lookout on the eastern side.

There was just one massive problem... the tunnel lights were completely out.

Walking into a pitch-black, 3,294-foot mountain tunnel with absolutely zero visibility is a wild experience. Merlin the Daniff and Bruce the Red Heeler mix had to put their tracking noses to work to lead the way, because honestly, it felt like anything—even Bigfoot himself—could have been hiding in the shadows!

Against all odds, we braved the dark and made it out to the other side to witness the absolutely breathtaking, sweeping mountain views. After soaking in the vista, we braved the black tunnel once more, rewarded the boys with a long, relaxing splash in a crisp mountain stream at the portal, and fired up the Sportsmobile. To top off a hot holiday, we drove over to Lake Emily at Seven Springs Resort for one final, epic swim to completely cool off.

We expected a peaceful post-4th of July hike, but the mountains had a massive surprise waiting for us! 🐻🎆

Today, the Dog Gone Adventure pack was walking a beautiful section of the Indian Creek Valley (ICV) Rail Trail heading down toward the Yough River. Halfway through the walk, we ended up with an uninvited guest joining the crew—a small black bear walking right down the trail with us!

Honestly, I think he must have partied a little too hard for the 4th of July last night. He was wandering down the bike path completely heading the wrong way. Someone needs to tell him that the Jellystone campground is in the other direction! 🏕️😂
