Please join us in congratulating Sean S from our Paterson/Whippany Terminal on being named Modern’s Home Safe Driver of the Month for August 2026!

Sean was nominated by his Terminal Manager, Lucas N, who recognized Sean for his dedication to safety, reliability, and the pride he takes in his work. Sean has been a valued member of the Modern team for 3 years and 2 months, and throughout that time, he has continued to show what it means to be a dependable and safety-focused driver.

Lucas had this to say about Sean:

Sean’s commitment to safe driving is also reflected in his performance. In July, Sean earned an impressive Netradyne score of 1032, and he is currently maintaining a strong score of 1026. His Safety Suites score was a 4 in July, and he is currently holding steady at a 4.

These numbers are more than just scores - they represent the consistency, awareness, and responsibility Sean brings to the road every day. Being a Home Safe Driver means making the right decisions behind the wheel, looking out for yourself and others, and making safety a priority on every trip.

Leadership in action at our Atlanta, Georgia operation!

Modern Transportation President Patrick Cozzens recently joined team members Don, Brian, Ed, and Carlos for a visit to our Atlanta Transload Operation. While onsite, Patrick also teamed up with Stephen and Charles to conduct safety inspections on equipment in the Atlanta yard.

These visits provide an important opportunity to connect with our team members, see operations firsthand, and reinforce the safety standards that guide everything we do. Thank you to our Atlanta team for your hard work, attention to detail, and continued commitment to keeping our people, equipment, and customers moving safely.

Modern's Home Safe Driver of the Month – July 2026
Congratulations to Nick N from our Medina Terminal on being nominated as Modern's Home Safe Driver of the Month for July 2026!
Nick has been with Modern for 1 year and 5 months and consistently demonstrates what it means to be a professional driver. His commitment to safety, teamwork, and doing the job the right way makes him a valued member of the Modern family.
According to Terminal Manager Pete A., Nick is an outstanding driver who is always focused on safety. He looks out for his fellow drivers by pointing out equipment defects, sharing loading techniques, and providing updates on road and mill conditions. He regularly volunteers to help wherever needed, both in Medina and at other operations. Nick is also one of only three drivers at the Medina Terminal who is qualified to transport and unload all three types of material handled by the operation.
His dedication to safety is reflected in his exceptional performance, earning a Safety Suite score of 9 in June and 8 in July, along with impressive Netradyne scores of 1012 in June and 1024 in July.
Nick exemplifies Modern's mission by putting safety first, supporting our customers, respecting his teammates, and always striving to be the best version of himself. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling with his wife and spending time on their boat.

A huge congratulations to Victoria H for taking 1st Place in our Step Contest with an incredible 419,871 total steps! Enjoy your new TV—you definitely earned it!

We'd also like to recognize our overall department champions—the Brokerage Department! They finished with an impressive department average of 288,288 steps, making them the overall team winners.

Modern Transportation is pleased to welcome Ken Shafer, Strategic Advisor, Equipment & Tank Cleaning, to the team as we continue expanding our liquid bulk logistics offerings.

Ken brings more than four decades of experience in the bulk transportation industry, beginning his career in 1982 as a mechanic with Grace Transportation and advancing through senior maintenance leadership roles with Superior Carriers, Superior Bulk Logistics, and Heniff Transportation Systems.

Throughout his career, Ken has built a strong reputation for his expertise in fleet maintenance, tank cleaning operations, regulatory compliance, safety, and continuous improvement. His leadership has contributed to maintenance organizations earning the prestigious Heil Safety Award, and he has served in key leadership roles with the National Tank Truck Carriers, helping advance best practices across the industry.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to add Ken to the Modern Transportation team,” said Dan Benacquista, Vice President of Strategic Operations & Planning. “Ken’s vast knowledge and experience are already bringing immediate benefits as we continue improving our business processes and providing superior service to our customers.”
