A quick selfie before a rather impressive elephant bull walks right past the vehicle!

Ubuntu Travel’s Director of Operations, Jenna Chase, is currently enjoying a short safari trip through South Africa, including a stay at Lion Sands River Lodge in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve.

Of course, spending time on the ground helps Jenna bring firsthand knowledge and practical insights to all those important details our travelers need to know before departing.

But there’s another reason we make these trips. We simply love being on safari!

Marataba protects more than 50,000 acres of malaria-free Big Five wilderness within Marakele National Park and is building a strong reputation for its rhino viewing and conservation work.

During our two-day stay, white rhino sightings became a pleasantly consistent feature of both our morning and afternoon game drives.

An out-of-this-world pangolin encounter at Marataba!

“Sean, let’s go find a pangolin this morning. We’ve been getting lucky lately, so let’s head into those open areas and see.”

That was the quiet confidence of our guide, Chanelle, as we headed out on our morning game drive.

Were we hopeful? Absolutely.Did we genuinely think we were going to find a wild pangolin? Not really.

But we did!

Truly incredible! The majestic black leopard, Giza, spotted by Ubuntu Travelers during their stay at andBeyond Suyian in Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau.

Melanistic, or “black,” leopards are exceptionally rare, making this a remarkable animal to encounter in the wild.

And what a sighting. Giza scent marking along the Ewaso Narok River.

Thank you Kendyl and Chris for sharing your remarkable sighting with us! A honeymoon safari to remember for sure!

A white rhino on morning game drive at Marataba Safari Lodge in Marakele National Park, South Africa.

We quite literally turned the first corner after leaving the lodge, and there he was. A beautiful, large male white rhino.

This was unexpected! A brown hyena treeing a leopard during a morning game drive at Marataba Safari Lodge. 🐆

After watching two brown hyenas fighting along the Matlabas River, we followed one of them along the road.

Then suddenly, it all erupted. A male leopard appeared and was chased straight up a tree by the brown hyena. Unreal!

Turn up the sound and listen to the leopard before the hyena retreats and the leopard moves away.

What a morning at Marataba Game Lodges.
