We see this misidentified all the time in the marine world 👇 This is meant to be strictly educational; I’m not calling anybody out. This is why it’s important, for you as the boat owners, to know who you have working for you and to know exactly what is being put on your boat.

This was called a “ceramic coating.” It somewhat looks like a failed or unleveled “ceramic coating” but in reality, it’s much more likely a worn-down acrylic coating like Poli Glow.

Big difference:
• True marine grade ceramic coatings don’t break down like this. It’s possible that an automotive ceramic coating could do this as those types of ceramics are not meant to be in a marine industry.
• Acrylic coatings can streak, haze, and wear unevenly over time
• Removal processes are completely different

If you treat this like a ceramic, you’re either wasting time—or risking unnecessary gelcoat removal.

Proper approach matters:
✔ Identify the coating correctly
✔ Strip or level it the right way
✔ Then correct and protect the surface properly

This is why experience matters when it comes to gelcoat correction and coating removal. Whether it’s a ceramic removal or Poli-Glow removal — knowing the different matters. Not everything is what it looks like at first glance.
