🔥🚒 Meet Our Newest Recruit Class! 🚒🔥

They’re already in Week 3, and it’s time we introduced you to our newest recruits!

CFD is once again partnering with Newton County Fire for our second joint recruit class, giving recruits from both departments the opportunity to train, learn, and grow together.

This week, the class is studying fire dynamics—learning how fire develops, behaves, and spreads. They’re also getting hands-on with the equipment, including learning how to properly fill SCBA cylinders using the cascade system. 🔥🧯

There’s a lot of work ahead, but they’re off to a great start! We’ll be following their progress and sharing more of their journey along the way.

🚧🚒 Pardon Our Progress… Now We Have Concrete! 🚒🚧

The Station 21 makeover continues!

Yesterday brought lots and lots of rebar, and today the concrete trucks and pump are rolling in. Crews are pouring and finishing sections of our new reinforced concrete parking area—and things are really starting to come together!

We’ve gone from tearing it up ➡️ gravel ➡️ asphalt ➡️ rebar ➡️ CONCRETE! 🙌

There’s still work to be done, but Station 21 is looking better with every update. Stay tuned…we’re getting there! 👷‍♂️🚒

🚒 Collaboration & Continuous Improvement 🚒

Yesterday, members of CFD Administration attended the 3rd Quarter Georgia Fire Accreditation Consortium Meeting, hosted by Columbus Fire & EMS.

Columbus Fire & EMS provided an excellent presentation on Recruitment & Retention, with a focus on bridging the gap between the newest generation of firefighters and our veteran firefighters. The meeting also included roundtable discussions and plenty of opportunities to share ideas, challenges, and successes.

Representatives from Covington, Columbus, Glynn County, DeKalb County, Fayetteville, and Clayton County participated in the meeting.

CFD’s Accreditation Program Coordinator also serves as the Georgia Consortium Coordinator, helping facilitate the agenda and roundtable discussions.

A big thank you to Columbus Fire & EMS for being such great hosts and for a valuable day of learning, networking, and collaboration! 🚒🤝

🚧🚒 Pardon Our Progress… We Have Asphalt! 🚒🚧

It’s been a productive Monday at Station 21/CFD Headquarters!

Our lower back parking lot received its fresh asphalt this morning and is looking pretty sharp! 👀 Meanwhile, crews have moved to the upper/Admin parking lot, where the asphalt is going down now.

From gravel last week to fresh pavement today—now THIS is progress! 🙌

We’re getting closer to the finish line. Stay tuned!

🚒 We’ve Been Busy at CFD! 🚒

Friday, we welcomed a local homeschool group to Station 21 for a little fire safety fun! Our visitors toured the station, checked out the fire trucks, watched an educational video, met Sparky, and—of course—the highlight of the day…got to spray the fire hose! 💦🔥

Then today, we had a very important inspection. Chief Arlo stopped by for one last check before he starts Pre-K next week. 👨‍🚒📋

Chief Arlo made sure our apparatus were in tip-top shape and even took time to quiz our firefighters on the tools and equipment carried on the trucks. We’re happy to report that the crews appear to have passed inspection! 😂🚒

With Pre-K calling, we’re not sure when Chief Arlo will be able to fit us into his busy schedule again, so we’re glad he made sure everything was in order before heading back to school!

We love having visitors of all ages at CFD and sharing a little bit of what we do with our community. ❤️

🇺🇸 Honoring a Fallen Deputy 🇺🇸

This morning, members of the Covington Fire Department will position our ladder truck at the Hwy 142 bridge, where we will proudly display the American flag as a fallen Richmond County Deputy makes the journey home.

If you see our crews and the flag over the roadway within the next hour, please know that we are there to pay our respects and honor a life dedicated to service.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the deputy’s family, loved ones, and the entire Richmond County law enforcement community during this difficult time.

🇺🇸 Rest easy. We’ll take it from here. 🇺🇸

🚧🚒 Pardon Our Progress! 🚒🚧

Station 21/CFD Headquarters is getting a little TLC! After tackling our lower parking lot and some much-needed drainage repairs, work has now moved to the upper/Admin parking lot.

Let’s just say…it was time. 😅 These lots have been serving us since the early ’80s, so they’ve definitely earned a makeover!

A little mess now for a much-needed improvement later. We’re excited to see the progress—and we’ll keep you posted! 👷‍♂️🚒

Congratulations, Captain Eric Wood

The Covington Fire Department is proud to recognize Eric Wood on his promotion to Captain.

Captain Wood currently serves in the Fire Marshal’s Office, where he has continued to demonstrate professionalism, knowledge, and a strong commitment to protecting the citizens of Covington.

His experience and dedication have made him a valuable member of our department, and this promotion reflects the leadership and responsibility he brings to the team each day.

We are proud to recognize this well deserved accomplishment and look forward to seeing Captain Wood continue to serve and lead in his new role.
