DUAL BRAKE CONVERSION KIT......Volvo PV and Duett owners ... We expect to have a new shipment of kits to Convert to DUAL CIRCUIT BRAKES available soon. In addition to the 444 and 544 kits, we now can supply the special mount for the Duett 445 & 545 which mounts on a full frame Volvo.
Same price for either kit, and a choice of 7/8 or 15/16 bore master cylinder depending on the pedal "feel" you prefer ( 7/8 takes a little less effort ). $ 245. plus USPS mail.
If you are considering changing to a safer and beter performing dual circuit system, now is a good time to order this kit. The price has been the same for 4 years, except for the USPS charge. I do not know how much longer we will be able to get these parts machined from our supplier, or how much longer before he changes our cost.
Having had two instances of a ruptured brake line in Vintage vehicles, 4 years ago I designed a conversion to a split system, separating front and rear circuits , that is easy for owners of Volvo 444/544 series cars to mount, and in that time quite a few 444/544 owners have installed our kit.
I wish I had done this earlier in my '58 Mercedes 220s with 13,000 miles, before another vehicle crossed my path in an intersection, and my panic stop ruptured a metal line, causing damage to one fender in the collision that ensued........... or before my '57 444 race car ruptured a line, and I continued downhill into turn 5 at Road America in the Volvo Nationals, at speed, with no brakes, and plenty of flames coming out from under the hood, where brake fluid sprayed on the exhaust header.
This custom mount, makes the conversion a simple bolt-in process without any welding or modifications to the original car's chassis. It locates in the original area, requiring only your individual modification of the brake lines for attachment. The mount is designed with the correct angle to fit the original pushrod actuator, and is specific to the PV.
The New Duett mount is a new design, and mounts differtent than the PV, but is the same price.
We supply a dual circuit master cylinder like the one shown that can be adapted to most Volvo or other remote reservoirs. Correct residual valves for 4 drums, or 2drums & 2 front disc brakes are included. ( Specify on ordering) . Fittings for the m/c and residuals, are included.
