WARNING, BEWARE, DANGER, WILL ROBINSON. Be on the alert for the much feared spoon-winged plug-bug which has been festering in many mechanic’s tool boxes of late. The plug-bug is mutating from old, used spark plugs found in every auto shop. Even though they have long ago been replaced with new spark plugs, many of them are saved for no obvious reason. They have been infected by exhaust fumes, old oil rags and used anti-freeze, and are mutating rapidly. Especially, be on the lookout for the male plug-bug, which has a bright red proboscis (see photo) and feeds on the blood from skinned knuckles and other self-inflicted injuries, suffered by mechanics. Their favorite domain is on old rusty car bodies ready to lunge at an unsuspecting midnight auto supply participant. If bitten, one is immediately stricken with a case of “iron disease”, for which there is no known cure, except to “buy just one more.”

It's only a month away!!! Just a reminder to clear your event calendar for the Montana Fun Weekend at the Cut Bank Airport. We are looking for participants in the Friday night Burn-out contest. We have eliminated the fee for participants but still have the big cash prizes...check out the poster. It's only $5 at the gate on Friday with food and beverages available. Come on out and give the crowd a good show with smoke and a melt-down. For Saturday, shade will be available under the tent or in the big hanger as usual.

David Joseph Ries, beloved brother and uncle, passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2021 at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls, MT after an extended fight with Covid-19.
Born September 7th, 1948, David grew up on a wheat farm outside of Conrad, MT and graduated from Conrad High School in 1966. He served in the Army as a helicopter crew member in the 59th Division of the 3rd Light Aviation Section stationed in Korea.
His time in the Army left him with a passion for aviation. David was a licensed pilot and member of the Montana Pilot’s Association, and spent many hours in the cockpit of his yellow Piper “Tri-Pacer” often flying to see family and friends.
One of his favorite missions with the Tri-Pacer was his annual flight to the Okanogan Valley in Washington on a “Peach Run.” He would bring back cases of fresh peaches for his friends and spent weeks canning and freezing his favorite fruit.
He also enjoyed building and flying radio controlled (RC) airplanes and, most recently drones.
A longtime employee of the Cut Bank International Airport, he started in 1993 as the Weather Observer and eventually became the Airport Operator. In 2011, under his direction, the airport received the Airport of the Year award from the Aeronautics Division of the Montana Department of Transportation. He also served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Airmen’s Museum at the Cut Bank International Airport and was working on the restoration of a WWII building to be used as a new location for the museum. For the last 18 years, he volunteered for the Montana Fun Weekend fly-in and car show. His favorite event was the popular “Bowling Ball Drop” which he coordinated.
David was always ready for a smile and a conversation, especially if the topic was aviation. One of his friends described him as “rough and grumpy but had a heart as big as a house.” He was admired for his strength of will and work ethic and was always generous with his time when a loved one or a friend needed his help.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Rosella Ries, his brothers, Robert Ries and Richard Ries, and nephew Craig Habets.
He is survived by his siblings Jeanette Habets (Darrel) Valier, MT, Michael Ries (Nancy) Sherwood, OR, Barbara Ries, Spokane, WA and sister-in-law Marilyn Ries, Okanogan, WA. Aunts, Bernice Muir of Sidney, MT and Joan Keegan (Mike) of Spokane WA, three nieces, four nephews, three great-nephews and many cousins and good friends.
The family plans to hold a fly-in memorial for Dave at the airport in the spring of 2022. Memorials in David’s name may be made to the WWII Airmen’s Museum at the Cut Bank International Airport. PO Box 103, Cut Bank MT 59427. The museum is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.

Hi to all car fans. It's with great regret that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 Montana Fun Weekend at the Cut Bank International Airport. Our main concern is to the safety of those who would be attending, and compliance with state and tribal regulations for large gatherings. You can be assured that we will be back in 2021 with a great Covid-19 free event.

Progress is being made on the renovation of the armament building at the airport. It's being restored to look close to original, but more energy efficient. After having foam insulation blown in, new sheathing, much like the original, is being installed. This was made possible by a donation from Dave Ries. Many volunteer hours have been spent on the building with much more to follow. It will be the new home for the WWII Airmen's Museum, featuring Air Corps communications gear, WWII memorabilia and much more. Many thanks to the crew from Glacier Electric Co-op who hung the final four panels on the front of the hangar. They show the four B-17 bomb groups who trained in Cut Bank during WWII. They were made possible, in part, by donations from Mike Brusch, Mike Sullivan and Roy Nollkamper, plus funding from the Airmen's Museum.

Hey, and the good news is, there will be a Montana Fun Weekend this year. After the problems last year that cancelled the show, we will be back this year. Save the dates: August 16, 17, 18 and we'll be back better than ever. We are planning some additional attractions which we'll publish as they become certain. See you there!
