Driver of the Week 🚛

Shoutout to James, who’s been rolling strong with SIMX for over 3 years. Reliable, helpful, and always putting safety first—he’s the kind of driver you can count on, no questions asked.

On top of that, he keeps us laughing with a steady supply of jokes… and an equally steady supply of Le Sueur peas straight from the can. That’s how he earned the nickname “Can O’ Peas” 😂

James started driving in 1987 with a plan to do it for a while and figure out what he really wanted to do. 39 years later—with a self-proclaimed PhD in pneumatic tankology from the University of YouTube—he’s still trucking!

After all these years, Can O’ Peas says he still loves the job because no two days are the same. It’s also given him the opportunity to raise his eight children and see them through college. He appreciates that SIMX keeps him in modern equipment, and that the shop techs and dispatch are always helpful and friendly.

We appreciate everything you do, James!

Driver Spotlight: Rodney
Just shy of 29 years behind the wheel with us, Rodney represents what this job is all about — faith, family, and showing up every day ready to do the work. Running Canada routes isn’t for the faint of heart, but Rodney has handled the miles with the same reliability and steady attitude for nearly three decades.

He’s the kind of driver you can count on no matter the weather, the distance, or the load. A strong family man, a man of faith, and a true professional on the road.

Driver Spotlight: Jonathon

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Jonathon, who has been with SIMX for almost 7 years and runs out of our Joppa terminal.

Jonathon says SIMX is a great place to work thanks to the benefits and a good balance between home time and work. He also appreciates that the company puts safety first and works alongside drivers to keep freight moving and customers satisfied.

According to Jonathon, there’s money to be made here for drivers who are willing to work. He’s also a big fan of our modern trucks and believes drivers should keep their trucks clean since it’s essentially their office on wheels.

🔧 Shop Spotlight: Nick & Phillip 🔧

Some guys just show up to work.
Nick and Phillip show up and rebuild the place if it breaks.

Nick has been with Southern Illinois Motor Xpress for 21 years and Phillip for 19 years. Between the two of them they’ve done just about everything here — welding, turning wrenches, driving trucks, road calls, and whatever else the company throws their way.

They’re the guys tackling the hardest jobs — axles, frame work, rebuilding trailers — the kind of repairs that make the rest of us say, “Yeah…that looks expensive.”

If a truck breaks down locally, chances are Nick or Phillip are the ones headed out on the road call. If something needs done on the farm, Mark probably already has them lined up for that too.

On top of all that, these two could probably start a stand-up comedy tour with the amount of laughs they bring to the shop every day. They make the long days a lot lighter and a lot more fun.

Most importantly, they’re not just great employees — they’re great fathers, great husbands, and a big part of what makes this company work.

🚛✨ Driver Spotlight: Christine! ✨🚛

At just 26, Christine is proof that the next generation of trucking is already here — and she’s running it locally like a pro. 💪

She’s a local driver who trains new drivers and isn’t shy about reminding the guys she can do anything they can do… just a little bit better 😉 And if you’ve watched her slide into a tight dock or handle a busy day of stops, you already know she means it.

When she’s off the clock, she’s either in the gym getting stronger or at church on Sunday. Strong faith, strong work ethic, and strong backing skills. 🚛🔥
