Spring means increased rainfall for many areas, which leads to wet roads. Maintaining control of your vehicle is harder on a slick road. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration – Large Truck and Bus Crash Facts 2021, there were 333 Fatal Crashes, 9,000 Injury Crashes, and 26,000 Property Damage Only Crashes that occurred during rainy weather conditions.
Keep in mind the below tips for driving on wet roads.
• Drive slowly and increase your following distance: Every vehicle handles differently, and you should allow plenty of time to stop for vehicles in front of you.
• Turn around: When you see the road is flooded, do not drive through it. Two feet of rushing water can carry away most trucks and SUVs.
• Plan your route: Check local stations for road closures and traffic conditions.
