Build one vehicle that lets the driver toggle easily between two very different environments: that was the challenge for the team behind the 2026 Explorer Tremor SUV.

“The balance between on-road and off-road is critical in a vehicle like the Explorer Tremor,” says vehicle engineering manager Brian Naspinsky. Enter Off-Road mode.

Off-Road mode sounds like a state of mind for SUV drivers, but really it’s a complex tech system built to make their adventures feel effortless on sand, rocks, mud and more. Meet some of the engineers behind the terrain-conquering feature in this clip from Ford University.

"In 1966, Ford changed the off-road world forever by introducing the first Bronco. Gas cost just 32 cents a gallon, and a young man named Darrel Collins, Jr. walked through the doors of the Kansas City Assembly Plant for his very first shift.

Sixty years later, Darrel is still here, bringing valuable knowledge, a strong work ethic, and his commitment to the KCAP Site every day.

This month, we had the privilege of celebrating his remarkable milestone during our Kaizen opening in front of visiting Ford and UAW senior leadership. We surprised him with an F-150 hood signed by hundreds of coworkers whose lives and careers he's touched over the years.

On behalf of the entire KCAP leadership Team, our UAW partners, and every teammate who has had the privilege of working alongside you; thank you, Darrel. Thank you for six decades of dedication, mentorship, and the example you've set for generations of Ford employees. You are a true KCAP legend, and we're proud to celebrate this incredible milestone with you."

-Ryan Wheeler, KCAP Plant Manager

When you work at Ford, it feels great to point to an iconic vehicle and tell the people you love, “I was part of that.”

The only thing better? Showing them where it all comes together. Ford’s Family Open House season is back, with stops planned at plants across the U.S. and Canada. At every stop, we’re celebrating employees’ hard work -- and inviting their families to celebrate with them, too.

Take a look at our first four events and stay tuned for more!

Reinventing Louisville Assembly Plant (LAP) to build the Ford Fathom midsize electric truck required the ingenuity and commitment of employees to unpack the entire vehicle development and assembly process.

The transformation of the assembly line into an assembly tree process came directly from employee feedback. LAP team members spent months training and sharing input at the New Model Product Development Center in Michigan to help refine the setup.

“We listened to all the things operators don’t like,” says Bryce Currie, Ford chief manufacturing officer. “Their work at Louisville Assembly Plant will be significantly more ergonomic. It’s designed to require less twisting, turning, and bending.”

“The discipline people learned in the military translates directly to our operation,” says Chief Manufacturing Officer Bryce Currie.

That’s why veterans make up a key part of Ford’s workforce.

“There’s always tasks, there’s always goals, and somebody who is coming from the military is used to that,” says KTP quality team manager and Army veteran Ed Kruskevitz.

So how did we land on Ford Fathom™? Sometimes figuring out what works starts with a long list of what doesn't.

Nine months. Hundreds of contenders. Two copywriters who landed on the same word independently. And one engineer who kept guessing the winner before every cut — and was the first to hear it won.

The result: Fathom. A word that started as a way to measure what you can't see, and became a word for understanding something completely.

“I had this belief that you needed a specific vehicle, exclusive for off-roading, and tons of gear just to get into the hobby,” said Ford intern Gabrielle Scott.

That misconception vanished the moment four communications interns swapped their Dearborn desks for the dirt at the Michigan Proving Grounds. Joined by Ford Comms Manager Daniel Peake and engineer Joe Neme, the group put a lineup of Ford vehicles through their paces. They experienced BlueCruise hands-free highway driving on the way north before tackling mud pits and steep descents in Explorer Tremor, Expedition Tremor, F-150 Raptor, and Bronco Raptor models.
