Jamie Baker has been part of the GenOx team since 2009, but his story with the company started with a conversation.

When Jamie was considering becoming an owner-operator, GenOx CEO Kevin Mathews gave him his word that what he had heard about GenOx was true. Jamie took the chance, joined the team, and has been here ever since.

That experience has taken him across the country, given him a front-row seat to rocket launches, and even allowed him to train and drive alongside his son.

Through it all, Jamie has brought the same approach to the job: know the product, take care of the equipment, build relationships with customers, and never rush the work.

Last month, August 18 marked Helium Discovery Day—the day in 1868 when helium was first detected in the spectrum of the sun.

More than 150 years later, helium is doing some pretty remarkable work here on Earth. From MRI machines and semiconductor manufacturing to aerospace, scientific research and other advanced technologies, helium plays a critical role in industries we depend on every day.

When helium is transported as a liquid, it gets really cold—approximately -425°F, just a few degrees above absolute zero.

Moving product under those conditions isn’t ordinary transportation. It takes highly specialized, high-value equipment, careful planning, experienced operations teams and professional drivers who understand cryogenics and the unique demands of the product they’re carrying.

Extreme heat and wildfire smoke can create serious risks for professional drivers, technicians, and employees working in yards, terminals, and customer locations.

During periods of extreme heat:

💧 Hydrate regularly—don’t wait until you feel thirsty.
🧊 Take appropriate breaks in a shaded or cooled area.
👥 Watch for signs of heat illness in yourself and others.
🚨 Confusion, slurred speech, fainting, or loss of consciousness may indicate heat stroke. Call 911, begin cooling, and never leave the person alone.

When wildfire smoke affects your area:

📱 Monitor local conditions and the Air Quality Index.
🚪 Keep vehicle windows and vents closed when conditions require it.
♻️ Use the air conditioner on recirculate to reduce outside smoke entering the cab.
🌫️ Reduce outdoor exposure and be prepared for rapidly changing visibility.
😷 Follow company requirements and local guidance regarding respiratory protection.

Most importantly, speak up when conditions become unsafe. Every GenOx professional driver remains captain of their ship, and every employee has a responsibility to stop, reassess, and ask for support when heat, smoke, or visibility creates an unacceptable risk.

Across our company, parents balance dispatch schedules, customer needs, maintenance demands, terminal operations, deadlines, and miles on the road while also managing school activities, appointments, family dinners, homework, and all the moments that matter at home.
