Photos show you the best possible version of a place on its best possible day.

What I actually look at: What is the neighborhood like at 10pm?
What does the room not show you in the listing?
How far is this property from what my client actually wants to do?
How does it perform when something goes wrong?

Beauty is easy to photograph. Character, location logic, and reliability are not.

Those are what I'm evaluating — whether we're talking about a ryokan in Kyoto, a lodge in Africa, or a river cruise ship in Portugal.

The discount website looked like a deal. 💸

Until the trip was over.

Here's what you usually happens with those bargain booking sites:
1. Non-refundable tickets with zero flexibility when plans change
2. No advocate in your corner when something goes wrong
3. Nickel-and-dime fees that quietly erase your "savings"
4. Zero knowledge of your needs, your pace, or what actually makes a trip worth taking

I'm not here to sell you the cheapest option. I'm here to make sure the investment you make in travel is worth every single dollar for the experience you get.

Tomorrow isn't promised.

Have you ever had a trip go sideways after going with the "cheapest option Tell me what happened. 👇

She entered. She won. And the conversation that followed was the best part. 🧳

Meet Gayle Cothell — our Delsey Paris luggage giveaway winner from the Livingston Parish Chamber Business & Community Expo, and the President of the Arts Council Of Livingston Parish

We had the best time sitting down with Gayle this week to hand over her prize. The luggage is beautiful. The conversation was even better. She filled us in on everything the Arts Council is doing for this community — classes, exhibits, events — and honestly, if you're not already plugged in, you're missing out. Go give them a follow.

Gayle, wherever these bags take you next — we hope it's everything you're imagining. 🌍

Thank you to everyone who visited us at the Expo. We left with full hearts and a lot of great new connections. 🤍

1. "Travel is too expensive right now." Travel has always been an investment. What's changed is that people are comparing 2026 prices to 2019 memories. The experience hasn't gotten worse — the baseline shifted.

2. "You need to go before it gets overrun." Sustainable travel matters to us — and honestly, so does your experience. Some of the most overtouristed spots in the world have extraordinary lesser-known alternatives right around the corner. Part of what we do is help clients find those places — the ones that give you the experience you're looking for without the crowds, the lines, and the feeling that you're sharing it with everyone else on the internet. Lesser known doesn't mean lesser. It often means better.

3. "You get better deals booking it yourself." Sometimes true for a simple flight. Almost never true for a complex, high-investment trip where your time and experience are on the line.

Long flights aren't always an option and honestly, we completely understand.

Some of the most immersive, "I can't believe I'm here" travel experiences are closer than you think. These destinations feel worlds away without spending days in transit: Mexico, the Caribbean, and U.S. cities with rich culture, stunning scenery, and that unmistakable sense of escape.

Here's what I look for when choosing destinations for clients who want to limit long-haul travel:

1. Direct flight options (or short layovers with easy connections)
2. A sense of place — culture, cuisine, history that feels distinctly different from home
3. Pace-friendly itineraries that don't require recovery days just to feel present
4. Experiences you can't find on a highlight reel — the kind that actually stay with you

Travel doesn't have to be a test of endurance to be meaningful. The right destination is the one that fits your life as it is right now.

A lot of people assume airport lounges are only for first class tickets or elite frequent flyers.

In reality, access often comes from things travelers already have, like certain credit cards, business class on one segment of a trip, or international itineraries that qualify in ways most people never check.

We see this all the time. People spend hours at crowded gates, overpay for food and drinks, and assume discomfort is just part of flying, when there were quieter, more comfortable options available to them the entire time.

For us, lounges aren’t about luxury. They’re about making travel days calmer, more predictable, and less exhausting.

Save this so you remember to check before your next trip.

People think luxury travel is about the thread count and the champagne on arrival. And those things are lovely. But what luxury actually feels like is this: you arrive and someone already knows what you need. Nothing feels hard. The transitions are smooth. When something unexpected happens, it gets handled before you fully register that it happened. You come home rested instead of depleted.
That's the experience we design — whether you're on a river in Portugal, an expedition ship in Antarctica, or a beachfront resort in Hawaii. Not the marble bathroom. The feeling that your time was treated as the precious thing it is.

One thing many U.S. travelers don’t realize is that flights involving Europe are governed by different passenger protection laws than flights within the United States.

Under European regulations, passengers may be entitled to compensation, care, or rerouting when flights are significantly delayed or canceled. This can apply even if you’re not an EU citizen, as long as the flight departs from Europe or is operated by a European airline.

Most travelers assume delays and cancellations are just part of travel and that they have no leverage. In reality, on many European routes, travelers often have more rights and options than they expect.

Knowing this ahead of time changes how you respond when things go sideways. Instead of reacting emotionally or accepting the first solution offered, you can pause, ask questions, and make more intentional decisions.

Save this for later and share with someone traveling soon.

The difference between a good trip and a great trip is usually local access.

Not a tour guide with a microphone and a flag. I mean the kind of access that comes from relationships. A supplier who has been on the ground in the Galápagos for twenty years, a property manager in Japan who knows which experiences aren't in any guidebook, a contact in Africa who can get you somewhere most visitors never see.

That's what I'm building when I'm not planning your specific trip.

The network behind the itinerary is what makes the itinerary extraordinary.

Not slowing down enough to actually be there.

I hear this more than anything else.

People come home with a hundred photos and a checked itinerary and say — it went so fast. That's not a travel problem. That's a planning problem.

When every hour is accounted for, there's no room for the unexpected moment that becomes the story you tell for years. The unscheduled afternoon in a hill town. The conversation with a stranger at a bar in Tokyo. The sunset you almost drove past.

I build margin into every trip on purpose. The best part is usually the part nobody planned.

05/20/2026

I look at the staff-to-guest ratio. I look at how long the senior staff has been there, high turnover is always a sign. I read the negative reviews more carefully than the positive ones, because that's where the truth lives.
I look at whether the property has a point of view, a sense of place and character.

A great resort in Alaska feels like Alaska. A great resort in Hawaii feels like Hawaii.

Generic luxury is easy to spot and easy to skip. And I look at whether the experience matches my client's energy.

Beautiful is not enough. Right is the standard.
