Moffat Modelers Railroad Group
The MOFFAT MODELERS Railroad Group (MMRG) is responsible for building an educational model railroad display for the Forney Museum of Transportation in Denver, Colorado. The layout is being built in N Scale based on historically accurate scenes starting in Downtown Denver and proceeding west, through North Yard and the towns of Arvada and Leyden, up around the 'Big Ten'. It will pass through the towns of Plainview, Cresent, Pinecliff (formerly El Gato), Rollinsville and Towland to the east portal of the Moffat Tunnel.
Being part of a museum of transportion history our layout will present dioramas reflecting the many decades of railroad operations both before and after the major railroad mergers between 1900 and 2000, some of us refer to it as 100 years of Colorado railroading. For example, the Burnham Shops area is to be represented as it would have appeared during the "transistion era", roughly 1953. Thus allowing us to operate steam as well as diesel and will include a roundhouse with turntable alongside the diesel shop. Downtown Denver will represent an era around 1925, when trollies were running and the welcome arch was present in front of Union Station.
Our website is an invitation to visit our project and to join us in building a museum quality layout. We hope to include real life prototypes with our models. We are looking for modelers that can build scenery. It does not matter what scale you model in your home layout, if you enjoy model railroading you can help with this project.
