A military plane at a gas station? ✈️

Meet The Fabulous Flamingo, one of the strangest road-going vehicles you’re likely to come across.

The motorhome was created using the fuselage of a 1940s military aircraft, with the wings removed and the body mounted onto a truck chassis.

The result is a roughly 38-foot-long, 17,000-pound vehicle that combines part airplane, part truck, and part RV, and yes, it’s street-legal.

It was created by former U.S. Air Force serviceman Gino Lucci and his family, turning an old aircraft fuselage into something that could travel the country from the ground instead of the sky.

From August 23–29, CVSA-certified inspectors across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico will conduct commercial vehicle inspections with added attention on brake drums and rotors. Can transport change the taste of wine?

It can.

Wine continues to develop in the bottle. During transit, prolonged heat, sudden temperature changes, direct light, and excessive movement can affect the quality that reaches the customer.

For many wine shipments, the target temperature is around 55–60°F (13–16°C), but the winery’s required setpoint should always come first. Bottles should remain boxed and protected from direct light, while cases need to be palletized, wrapped, and braced to reduce shifting, breakage, and closure damage.

How can an apple stay crisp for nine months?

The apple on a supermarket shelf may have been harvested months before you picked it up.

After harvest, an apple is still biologically active. It continues to breathe, ripen, and gradually lose firmness.

Long-term freshness depends on more than refrigeration. In controlled-atmosphere storage, apples are kept cold while oxygen is reduced and carbon dioxide is carefully managed. These conditions slow the fruit’s respiration and ripening without freezing it or stopping it from breathing.

Under specific controlled-atmosphere conditions, USDA researchers found that Fuji apples could retain their flavor and crispness for up to nine months. The exact storage period depends on the variety, maturity at harvest, treatment, temperature, and storage conditions.

Once the apples leave controlled storage, the same level of care has to continue on the road. Airbus builds A350 wings in Broughton, UK. Once a complete set is ready, the BelugaXL flies both wings to Toulouse, where they become part of the aircraft during final assembly.

Each wing is approximately 30 meters long.
