After the 8 minute "hot re-fuel" (ie no engine shutdown) the pilots departed for another 2 hour shift of "dipping and dumping". The hose hanging from the copter is dipped into the river as the copter hovers and sucks water to fill a permanently attached, expandable bladder. The process is repeated several times an hour becoming an effective firefighting operation when the water and fuel source are so close to the fire location. Also need to mention that not in the pictures or video is their 10,000 fuel truck.

It was a busy day at the Desert Aire Airport. Dept. of Natural Resources personnel in conjunction with Northwest Helicopters converged on Desert Aire to support the firefighting operations against the "Railroad Fire". We thank them for their firefighting efforts.

*** REMEMBER… the fly-in pancake breakfast is this Saturday 6/20, 7am-11am. It is in a different hangar this year on the north side of the runway, 431 Airport Way SW. Delicious breakfast made by our awesome volunteer chefs, raffle baskets, and airplanes. That’s a perfect morning!

It's that time of year again!! The Desert Aire airport is busy planning this year's Fly-In Breakfast and we are looking for volunteers.

Below are the categories we will need volunteer help with:

Set Up: set up tables, chairs, etc Fri 06/19
Decorations: table-scapes, raffle area, etc.
Take Down / Clean Up: after breakfast is done Sat 06/20
Safety: Marshaling A/C, Ground Ops (including shuttling pilots to/from parking area/hangar)
Cooks / Servers (Some cooking/prepping will take place at Sagebrush Senior Center)
Food Transport (between Sagebrush Senior Center & Hangar)
Cashiers: Greet incoming pilots/families, collect donations
Greeters / Buffet Help: Help direct seating for guests, replenish buffet line items
Raffle Baskets: collecting and assembling items for raffle baskets
Raffle: Sell tickets during breakfast
Kids' Raffle table

The event is from 7:00am to 11:00 on Saturday 6/20 and we run it in 2 hour shifts. If you can help for 2 hours, let us know in the comments.
