An MC number identifies a carrier who transports regulated commodities in interstate commerce, whereas a US DOT number identifies carriers engaged in interstate commerce. Items that have been altered from their original state are often considered controlled commodities and require an MC number. Not the North Dakota Highway Patrol, but the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration decides if an MC number or a US DOT number is necessary.

Only 7% of long-haul drivers are women, and many women don't think driving a truck is a good career choice. However, fleets may take efforts to successfully attract more women and fill open seats! Here are some concepts to think about:

-Incorporate women into management and committees.
-Include personal safety equipment in the cab, such as panic buttons.

-Participate in associations with a driver-centric focus.
-Offer recruiting initiatives with female trainers that are specifically targeted towards women
-Make use of females in your advertising
