Martin Sheen starred in The California Kid (1974). The car stole the show anyway.

A cult-classic hot rod thriller, with Sheen as a drifter and Vic Morrow as a sheriff running a deadly speed trap. Its remembered for the story, but even more for the coupe.

Pete Chapouris built that 34 Ford in a Southern California backyard garage. Flame paint, full fenders, no Hollywood budget. He wanted to capture early hot rodding: raw, real, and a little rebellious.

Then the car landed on the cover of Rod amp; Custom in 1973, and Universal came calling just before filming began.

*️⃣ That coupe didnt just appear in a movie.
1️⃣ It launched a brand.
2️⃣ It inspired a generation.
3️⃣ Its still turning heads today.

Petes vision and craftsmanship made it one of hot roddings most enduring symbols.

If youre looking to restore a 34 Ford coupe, they can still be found if you know where to look. Vintage auctions are a good source for fully restored examples. And if youre buying one to ship outside the U.S., send me a DM. Export is what I do.

Why is Labor Day in September, not May 1 like most of the world?
The answer involves a deadly bombing, a nationwide strike, and a president trying to make peace with the workers he'd just sent troops against.

In 1894, a wage dispute at the Pullman Palace Car Company near Chicago spiraled into a national railroad boycott. President Grover Cleveland sent in federal troops to break it, and the strike ended in violence.

Days later, Cleveland signed the law making the first Monday in September a national holiday β€” Labor Day. It looked a lot like an apology.

Meanwhile, most of the world was heading in a different direction. May 1 became International Workers' Day, rooted in Chicago's 1886 Haymarket Affair. The U.S. stuck with September instead, partly to distance itself from the politics tied to May Day.

It's easy to see Labor Day as just the unofficial end of summer. But it started as a hard-fought recognition of the people whose work kept the country running β€” something worth remembering behind every barbecue and long weekend.

Why is Labor Day in September, not May? Discover the surprising history behind Labor Day β€” from the first 1882 parade to the Pullman Strike.

The Camaro Isn't Dead β€” It's on a Longer Pit Stop Than We Thought

Unlike my usual automobile posts, I wrote this one with some sadness back when it happened. A vehicle I've always loved β€” and owned β€” was being discontinued. The Camaro has shown up in movies for decades, and I've covered two of them here before: Better Off Dead and Bumblebee.

Classic Industries covered it well at the time: GM confirmed that the 2024 model year would close out the sixth-generation Camaro, at least for the time being, after a run stretching back to 1966.

The Camaro brings back a lot of memories for me, especially when I see a 1979 Z-28 on the road β€” I drove one for a few years and still wish I'd never sold it.

Here's the update, three years later: the "at least for now" is looking more real by the month. As of this month, GM Authority is reporting that a next-generation Camaro is officially in the pipeline β€” gas engine, rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission option, and a dedicated high-performance model likely powered by GM's new Gen 6 Small Block V8. The timeline has slipped from an earlier 2028 target to a 2029 model year, but the program itself was reportedly greenlit by GM back in April, with production penciled in at the same Lansing plant that built the last one.

What's still unsettled is the shape it takes. Some reports point to a return to the classic two-door coupe; others suggest GM may finally break tradition with a four-door performance sedan or even an electric SUV wearing the badge. Nothing's official yet β€” but "the Camaro is gone for good" doesn't hold up the way it did in 2023.

In the meantime, if you're a Camaro lover, the good news hasn't changed: there are decades of models to choose from. With the badge's popularity over the years, you can likely find the exact generation, trim, and options you want by searching vintage and classic auto sites.

If you decide to buy one β€” whether you're in Tampa, Chicago, or anywhere else β€” how you get it home (or exported) depends a lot on the vehicle's location and the nearest port. For advice on shipping your Camaro, drop me a DM.

From "I saw it online" to "It's in my driveway" β€” here's how Caribbean buyers are importing U.S. cars without the headaches.
You spotted the car online. Maybe it's a clean classic, a hard-to-find trim, or just a better deal than anything local. Then the questions start β€” and for most buyers, that's where the excitement stalls out.

Over 40+ years, I've helped 400+ customers export thousands of vehicles to the Caribbean β€” private buyers and commercial fleets alike. And almost everyone starts with the same three questions:

β–Ά Will inland freight eat up my savings? Not if it's planned correctly from the start.

β–Ά What documents do I actually need? Fewer than you'd think β€” but missing even one can stall your shipment at the port.

β–Ά Does it matter which freight forwarder I use? Yes β€” a forwarder who specializes in vehicles avoids costly mistakes a generalist won't even know to watch for.

None of this requires you to become an expert. It requires a process β€” and I've already built one, step by step, from sourcing to delivery.

My goal is simple: buying a car from the U.S. should feel as easy as buying one down the street.

Thinking about it? Send me a DM β€” I'll walk you through exactly what it takes for your situation.
