Rio Grande Plan The Rio Grande Plan is a citizen-led proposal to relocate and grade separate UTA Frontrunner and Union Pacific trains through Salt Lake City.

You’ve heard about the WEConnect decision not to advance the Rio Grande Plan as a solution to the west-east divide. In August they will be having two block parties to show their preferred solutions and show progress on the study. The voices of the public are important to both our organization and the WEConnect team, and we want to be sure they are heard.

Please visit the ActionNetwork link in our bio to learn more about WEConnect, why it matters, and what you can do to help. From there you will be able to send an email to the Mayor, the WEConnect Team, and your city council member to let them know how you feel about the Rio Grande Plan.

Please RSVP and join us for a volunteer meeting August 17th at 6:30pm at the Salt Lake City Library Room B (livestream on our YouTube for those that can’t come in person) and at the WEConnect block parties on August 21st from 6-9 pm on the 9 Line (900 S. 700 W.) and August 28th from 6-9pm at Guadalupe Park (500 N. 600 W.)

WE Connect takes public feedback seriously, and all comments made during their open comment period be reflected in their final product.

Additionally, the next in person meeting will be July 14 from 6-8pm at the Northwest Recreation Center (1255 Clark Avenue
Salt Lake City). We’ll see you there.

We love everything there is to do across Salt Lake City… until we get stuck waiting 30 minutes for a train to cross 🙃

Travel between the West and East sides is only going to take longer and longer as freight traffic increases. The current infrastructure in downtown SLC is not sustainable. The Rio Grande Plan would bury the rails and allow pedestrians, cyclists, and cars to never have to worry about long trains again! 💪🏼

The Rio Grande Plan is the only solution that stramlines infrastructure, reactivates Rio Grande Depot as Salt Lake Central Station, and allows for community development! 🌆🌃

This November, Utah Districts gets to chose their representatives in Congress. Because federal support will be essential to making the Rio Grande Plan a reality, we asked those running for Utah’s 1st Congressional District where they stand on the Rio Grande Plan, FrontRunner, and other major transportation investments. Why talk about this in June? Because, the Democratic candidate will be chosen this month in the Primary Election.

This month’s newsletter has their responses all in one place, along with important election dates and upcoming events. Please see this post for responses.
