From Anchorage all the way back to the states, ferrying the new MD500C down the coast was the ultimate masterclass in aviation decision-making. 🏔️🚁
In this video, JD and Alex A. break down what it really takes to fight through “skuzzy” coastal weather. They talk about looking at the big forecast models, reading the shifts, and the critical go/no-go decisions that kept them moving forward safely.
Alaska weather is a completely different beast—a true anomaly—and we learned a lot along the way. A massive thank you to everyone who shared their local knowledge and pointed us toward the amazing weather resources that made this a great, well-planned trip. 🗺️🌧️

From Alaska back to Durango, with a quick stop in Salt Lake for a legendary discovery flight! 🏔️🚁
JD took our new MD500C up for a spin with Norm, who is currently working on his next check ride. He’s been looking at Highland Helicopters to get the job done and finish line crossed, so we gave him a true taste of what the 500 can do.
Safe to say, I think he enjoyed the MD500C. 😉

A massive congratulations to Alex M. on his first solo flight! There is absolutely nothing quite like the feeling of watching your student lift off, command the aircraft completely on their own, and nail it.

Just touched down in Durango after the long haul from Anchorage, Alaska in our brand new MD500C! 🏔️ This was our longest cross-country flight yet and it was an absolutely amazing journey. Nothing beats coming home with Colorado Highland Helicopters! 🚁
