I would like to Congratulate Courtney VFD and Chief Barry Williard on receiving a NCDOI/ISO class 4 . Chief Williard and his entire staff worked very hard to accomplish this their fire scene set up is the best I have ever seen with 0 usable water lost that is something to be very proud of . If you want to learn and see the modification that where made to do this feel free to contact Chief Williard I’m sure he will send you pictures . The Courtney community should be very proud to have this department protecting them .

Hello everyone it’s been a while and that’s my fault just been busy between work ,Chief and shooting .
I want to get some discussion started on a few things .

1 what is the number one problem you have in reaching your ISO classification?

2 NCDOI has worked really hard to streamline their process do you have any issues with the process?

3 Rural water departments are you having quarterly waterhaul or hose lay training?

4We have seen a lot of small modifications to equipment like low level strainers what are something’s that you are willing to share has helped your department.

Thanks In advance I think we have enough members now to have some good discussions .

I just want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and I hope Santa brings you all ISO Class Ones .
It this time of year that we take a break look back at what we have done and be proud I know I am and I’m proud of each one of you that I have worked with this year and the same goes to the ones coming up it’s a exciting time for me and nerve racking for you chiefs but trust me you will do fine.
Closing I want to give a shout out to the NCDOI and Commissioner Causey for putting the citizens first and the fire service next in the rating and inspections division . You understand and have put together the best team possible to help the Departments and I turn save the citizens millions of dollars .
Again Merry Christmas to all and I will look forward to seeing you next year.

Ok I’m back as most of you know I have been working on the East Bend Grade for about 20 years and now we just sit and wait . I and others feel we didn’t leave anything laying on the table so I think we will be happy when we know here in about 90 days.

So I want to open this show up and let’s work through some different things let’s do water . It may be all hydrants ,half hydrants half ponds a few tanks some rivers etc . I want this to be open and honest discussions . Ask questions how many people do I need to set up fire scene or who needs to set my water point up . So let’s try it ask away and let’s see what kinda ideas we get . You ask the main question I will ask you a couple questions and then we will see what we get.

Congratulations to The East Bend VFD for a job well done on 5500 ft 5 inch LDH Hose Lay for alternate water delivery for ISO and NCDOI .

04/24/2018

Well I waited a few days to post on here because I didn’t want to take away from anything that the guys and gals at the East Bend Fire Department had accomplished .
For about 20 years this Department and its members have been working on Long Hose Lays and making them work and that info is being used not only in the state of NC but all across the United States .
As most of you who know me in the fire service know that it that time and East Bend is up to be regraded and that process will be completed in May . But they have been training and buying need Truck and equipment as well a a new substation on Apperson Rd. Well Saturday April 21st In East Bend NC the Long Hose Lay Bar just got moved again the original mark was set back around the early 2000s was 713 gpm at 5000 ft of 5 inch LDH (fire hose) . The new Mark set Saturday is 1640 gpm with 5500ft of 5 inch Eco 10 LDH Hose Made by Key Hose.
The number for DOI grading purposes look like this
From 200 starting point to full draft 3min and 30 sec, Fire Scene set up and flowing 250 gpm of water 4min and 55 sec ,
revived continuous flow from water source with no air flowing into fire scene engine 9min and 6 sec. was ready to flow max flow at the 11 min and 40 sec and reached a mark of 1640 gpm. So in real term what does all this mean in the real world. Well that’s easy what it means is if needed the East Bend VFD can flow over 1500 gpm of water to over 80 percent of their district and in another 10 percent of that falls into the 750 gpm range and the final 10 is in the 3500 gpm Range That requires special plans and processes but is obtainable.
Bottom line this lowers or keeps their current ISO rate below a 6 and that gives to all the citizens that live in the East Bend Fire District the lowest home owner insurance in rural Yadkin County as well as the lowest possible ratings and savings witin 1000 ft from a hydrant.
Job well done East Bend you care so much about you citizens and it show when you save them more money in insurance premiums than they pay in fire tax . You are truly the poster department on providing the best service to you tax payers with returns back to the citizens .
It has been a pleasure to work with you for 20 plus years and to see you grow and think outside the box to do what is best for your tax payers . East Bend Fire Department you are Simply the Best . Keep up the hard work you will onlyget better if you keep on wanting to learn and training to be the best at everything we .
As alway we didn’t do this bye our selves we want to thanks NCDOI, Fall Creek , Forbush, Old Richmond Fire Departments . Big shout out to Key hose and TFT intake valves for great service and great delivery times

If anyone has questions or comments good or bad send them in I will gladly answer then .
I hope to have video finished later this week .
Until then Be Safe 🚒🚒🇺🇸❤️

I want to start this week of kinda straight and to the point I don’t know what the answer is but we have to find it this coming off one off the worst weeks in the fire service in a long time.
Guys and Gals take care of each other don’t be Afraid to say hey dude you are messing it up it’s a lot easier to do that then. Than go tell his wife and child Dads gone think about it.
We have safety rules for a reason use them from seatbelts to chin straps on helmet .
Last but not least I don’t have to like you and you don’t have to like me but if we are going to help a injured person and do it to the professional level we have trained and expected to operate at you had damn well better like what we do together or we will become a victim of our own making .

As alway I welcome you comments good or bad .
Love each and everyone of you even if we have never meet .
