Pangborn Memorial Airport

Pangborn Memorial Airport Pangborn Memorial Airport operated by Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority The airport is owned by the Ports of Chelan and Douglas Counties.

The Pangborn Memorial Airport is a public use airport located in Douglas County, Washington. It is located four nautical miles (7 km) east of the central business district of Wenatchee, a city in Chelan County. The airport is served by one commercial airline (Alaska Airlines) providing commuter service to Seattle-Tacoma International. The Airport also serves as a regional hub for charter and corpo

rate flight activity as well as flight training and aircraft maintenance. Pangborn Memorial Airport is named for Clyde Pangborn, who with Hugh Herndon in 1931 flew the first non-stop flight across the Pacific Ocean. Taking off from Misawa, Aomori, Japan with an intended destination of Seattle, they instead landed in Wenatchee due to bad weather in Seattle. Since Wenatchee was in the area of Pangborn's hometown, he was familiar with the area and chose to divert there for this historic flight, longer and more dangerous than Charles Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic in 1927. The Pangborn Memorial Airport covers an area of 670 acres at an elevation of 1,249 feet (381 m) above mean sea level. It has two asphalt paved runways: Runway 12/30 is 7,000 by 150 feet. Runway 12/30 has High Intensity Runway lights, Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI) at both ends, a Category I Instrument Landing System for Runway 12, and Required Navigation Performance (RNP) satellite based approaches at both ends. At this time, Runway 7/25 is closed to operations.

✈️ Flying Out of Pangborn? Plan Ahead! 🚧

Travelers heading to Pangborn Memorial Airport should be aware of upcoming construction at the Grant Road & Nile Avenue intersection.

Construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and is expected to continue through Summer 2027.

🚦 What does this mean for airport travelers?
• Grant Road will remain open, but traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
• Nile Avenue will be closed to through traffic within the project area.
• Detours will be in place, and traffic may move more slowly than usual.

✈️ If you are flying out of Pangborn, please plan accordingly! We recommend allowing extra travel time to get to the airport, especially during peak traffic and construction periods. Give yourself plenty of time to navigate the detours, park, check in, and get through security without feeling rushed.

When communities ask for additional air service, one question matters more than almost any other:

Are people using the flights that already exist?

Airlines closely monitor passenger demand when evaluating the future of a route. Strong demand helps demonstrate that a community values local air service and can support continued investment.

Every time you choose to fly from Pangborn Memorial Airport instead of driving to another airport, you're doing more than booking a flight—you’re helping demonstrate the demand for convenient, reliable air service in North Central Washington.

While no single ticket guarantees future routes or additional flights, choosing to fly local helps strengthen the case for continued investment and expanded opportunities over time.

Whether you're traveling for work, visiting family, or heading out on vacation, consider starting your journey at Pangborn.

✈️ Happy National Aviation Day! ✈️

Today, August 19, we celebrate the wonder of flight and the people who make aviation possible—from pilots and aircraft mechanics to air traffic controllers, airport teams, first responders, and everyone who keeps our skies moving safely.

Here at Pangborn Memorial Airport, we’re proud to be part of the aviation community and to serve as a gateway to the Wenatchee Valley and beyond.

Whether you’re a lifelong aviation enthusiast, a frequent flyer, or someone who simply enjoys watching an airplane take off, today is a great day to look up and appreciate just how amazing aviation is. 🛩️

Here’s to the people, aircraft, and airports that keep us flying!

Another common question is, "Why don't we just attract another airline?"

While adding a new airline is always something communities hope for, expanding service with an airline already operating at an airport is often more realistic.

An existing airline already has crews, aircraft scheduling, ground operations, passenger data, and an established customer base in the market. That foundation makes it easier to evaluate opportunities for additional service.

Launching service with an entirely new airline requires building many of those pieces from the ground up, making it a much larger investment and a greater business risk.

That's one reason the new Portland route is such an important milestone—it builds on an existing partnership while expanding travel options for our community.
