Where to Go in Italy for your Birthday 🎉🇮🇹

There really IS a best time of year for different parts of Italy. The destination I’d recommend in February is completely different from where I’d send you in July, October, or December.

Hotels in Italy can be VERY different from what Americans are used to, and knowing what to expect before you book can save you a lot of frustration later.

There are a few things I always look at beyond just the photos, price, and star rating. Location, room size, bed setup, accessibility, front desk hours, breakfast, air conditioning, and even how you’ll physically get your luggage to the hotel can all matter more than people realize.

Reasons you can be DENIED boarding an international flight!! 🚫✈️

You can be completely checked in, standing at the airport WITH your passport… and still be denied boarding an international flight.

Having a valid passport is only part of it. Your passport may need several months of validity remaining. You may need a visa, electronic travel authorization, transit documentation, or specific health records. Even a name mismatch between your airline ticket and passport can cause problems.

And don’t forget airline deadlines. Miss the check-in, baggage drop, or boarding cutoff and you can be denied boarding even if the plane is still sitting at the gate.

Basically… check this stuff BEFORE you leave home, not while you’re standing at the airport panicking.

Italy has SO many different types of places to eat, and knowing what they actually mean can help you better choose where you might want to eat!

A ristorante is usually a more traditional sit-down restaurant. A trattoria is often more casual and focused on regional, home-style cooking. An osteria historically centered around w**e and simple food, although today some are casual and some are surprisingly upscale.

Then you’ve got pizzerias, enotecas, agriturismi, paninoteche, pasticcerie, friggitorie, tavola calda, rosticcerie, gastronomie, gelaterie and more. They all offer something a little different.

South Africa for Beginners 🇿🇦

Planning your first trip to South Africa? It’s one of those destinations where you can fit SO many completely different experiences into one vacation.

Cape Town, the Winelands, safari, beaches, mountains, road trips, incredible food, whale watching… you really do not have to choose just ONE type of trip.

For a first visit, I usually love combining a few nights in Cape Town, time in the Winelands and a safari. If you have more time, you can add the Garden Route, Hermanus, KwaZulu-Natal, the Drakensberg or even another safari area.

And safari is not one-size-fits-all either. Kruger, Sabi Sand, Madikwe and the Eastern Cape all offer different experiences, so where you go should depend on what YOU want from the trip.
