Military Flag Case was inspired from Ron’s time in the service, where he served in the Air Force and Department of Defense. Ron built his first flag case when Jessie, an employee of Ron’s, died of cancer.
The majority of the flag cases that were made after were presented to retirees when General Billy Mitchell International Airport Air Reserve Station was closing. General Billy Mitchell Air Reserve Station was ordered to close under Base Realignment And Closer (BRAC)
Ron started making furniture and crafts at home in the basement as a hobby. Shelly, Ron’s wife and Misty his daughter did all the painting and decorating of the crafts. Misty met Matt during this time and they were married a short time later. To our delight, we discovered that Matt was a cabinetmaker by trade.
With the Reserve Station closed the decision was made that Ron would retire and the family would return to their hometown area of Eau Claire/Elk Mound, WI. Ron’s wife planned on finding a job doing assisted living while Ron planned on crafting more flag cases. During a visit to Eau Claire, Shelly and Misty our daughter joined other family members to go to some thrift sales. Their route took them past a bed and breakfast with a small apple orchard, woodworking shop and 10 acres of land. This gem became our new location and Apple Valley Enterprises, LLC was born and the new home of AVEnue Orchard, Military Flag Case and Apple Valley Home.
Matt, the son-in-law, has been making furniture since 1998 and now is a key component of the Military Flag Case and also helps Ron run the Orchard side of the business, he lends a hand where ever needed to help AVE LLC. Running smooth. But he is amazing with the woodwork and has a great eye for details to help make each flag case be one of a kind and help memorialize your loved ones.
Everything at Apple Valley Enterprises, LLC is family ran. We like knowing who plays a part in what we produce here. Military Flag Case is primarily tended to by Ron and his son-in-law Matt Joers.
