September is National Preparedness Month! As part of our work in making sure Eau Claire County is ready for the various incidents that may occur and require a large-scale response, we bring in a variety of training courses through Wisconsin Emergency Management and the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium. Examples of some of the classes we bring in include: Skywarn Weather Spotter led by the US National Weather Service Twin Cities Minnesota, Incident Command System training for public safety, government, and healthcare agencies, Public Information training for any interested organization, and specific training that's requested by our partner organizations!

As National Emergency Management Awareness Month - August 2026 continues, our Emergency Manager will be talking to the Eau Claire County Board of Supervisors tonight about how local and state programs work together during a disaster! Additionally, two resolutions will be considered by the County Board, one proclaiming August as EM Awareness Month in Eau Claire County and the other proclaiming September as National Preparedness Month! Both of these are part of national efforts to improve the understanding of emergency management and help our communities be better prepared for disasters!

August is National Emergency Management Awareness Month!

It’s National Emergency Management Awareness Month.🚨

But what is emergency management?🤔

It is a team effort. From fire and police departments, emergency operations centers, hospitals, schools, health agencies, utilities, nonprofit organizations, and volunteer groups. Each partner from the local level to the federal level plays a crucial role in preparing, responding to, and helping communities recover from disasters or emergencies.💪

This month is about celebrating and recognizing the power of working together and celebrating the work done behind the scenes.🎆

Our thoughts are with Eau Claire Fire Rescue as they mourn the loss of firefighter Jungbluth. As the procession for firefighter Jungbluth goes around Eau Claire County please be mindful of emergency vehicles that may be parked at overpasses or on the road

The Eau Claire Fire Department invites our community to respectfully join us in honoring Firefighter Bryce Jungbluth as his procession travels through the Eau Claire area on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Firefighter Jungbluth will be es**rted by the Eau Claire Fire Department from Minneapolis, Minnesota to the City of Eau Claire before continuing on to Hayward, Wisconsin.

The es**rt is anticipated to depart Minneapolis at approximately 11:00 am and arrive in the City of Eau Claire at approximately 12:30 pm. All times are approximate and subject to change.

The Eau Claire Fire Department procession will travel as follows:
• Depart the CVTC Emergency Service Education Center (ESEC) Campus, traveling east
on Truax Boulevard
• South onto North Clairemont Ave
• North on Hastings Way
• Conclude at Melby Street, where Eau Claire Fire Department apparatus will conclude
their participation. The es**rt will then continue north to Hayward with Bryce.

Members of the public wishing to pay their respects are encouraged to gather safely along the procession route. Please remain off the roadway, follow all directions from law enforcement and public safety personnel, and avoid obstructing the procession.

As timing may change due to traffic and operational considerations, additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.

As we see the damage from yesterday's severe weather event in the Fox Cities, we know there's community members who want to provide goods to those impacted. At this time, please do not send any donations, follow the local county emergency management and government social media and websites for updates to what is needed and when. If donations are requested, the best thing to provide is money to National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD) groups that are assisting in the area or local disaster funds that may be setup. This allows the funds to go directly to those in need and avoids scams.
