SPECIAL FUNDRAISER TRIPS FOR BELINGTON REVITALIZATION COMMITTEE!

As part of the Belington Old Fashioned Days Celebration, the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad and the Belington Revitalization Committee are thrilled to announce a special train ride has been arranged.

On Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of September 2026, the train will depart from Belington, travel to Tygart Junction, and then return. The train will depart at 6pm from the Golden Rule Building and return around 7:30pm on both days.

This train ride is a fundraiser to support Belington Revitalization Committees efforts in restoring and developing the Golden Rule Building. All proceeds minus booking fees and taxes will go to this cause.

On this hour and a half journey you will pass beautiful rapids and waterfalls as the train rolls by the confluence of the Middle Fork and Tygart rivers! Relax as you pass by old ghost towns and coal loadouts from a bygone era, all from the comfort of our train, proudly pulled by vintage diesel locomotives. This trip is the perfect evening entertainment for family and friends!

Plan to arrive early to explore the Golden Rule Building and grab a warm drink and a pastry or cookie from the Belington Bakery for your trip.

Thank you to the West Virginia Department of Transportation for their touching tribute to Kathy Smith.

A celebration of life for Kathy Smith will be held at the Durbin Depot beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21st.

Family and friends are invited to join us as we remember and celebrate Kathy’s life, her many contributions to our railroad family, and the lasting impact she had on so many people.

All who knew Kathy are welcome to attend.

The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad family mourns the passing of Kathy Smith, beloved wife of our president, John Smith.

As Vice President of Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad, Kathy wore many hats throughout the years. While many visitors knew Kathy from their visits to her beloved Rail & Trail Store, where she always greeted guests with a smile, much of her remarkable work took place behind the scenes.

Kathy's artistic vision, creativity, and dedication helped shape the identity of our railroad. She played an instrumental role in developing many of our special events, advertising and marketing campaigns, and the creation of countless logos, including the iconic DGVR herald that has become synonymous with our railroad.

Kathy's passion, talent, and unwavering support touched every corner of our railroad. Though her passing leaves a tremendous void, the legacy she created will continue to be seen in the experiences we provide, and the identity of Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad for generations to come. 🌷
