DFI was formed to help assist our customers in finding solutions to utilize the efficiencies found in shipping bulk via rail. Working in conjunction with our bulk liquid transport company, Dunning Express, we have developed several locations centrally located to the US to provide this service.
Full Job Description:
*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
Must learn ground work (coupling, uncoupling cars, properly aligned switches, de-railer not engaged, must be able to take and give orders in a clear and concise manner).
Must learn how to do a pre-start up switch engine inspection and recognize problems (check fluid levels, a general walk around and maintain the check off list and turn in daily).
Must learn how to properly start up and shut down the switch engine.
Must learn how to safely operate the switch engine (travel speed, yard speed, maximum pulling load).
Must learn the safety rules of switching.
Must learn track maintenance (driving spikes, lubing switches, tightening joint bars, helping to recognize track that is in need of maintenance).
Must maintain the switch engine to a safe operating condition (changing out brake shoes, adjusting air brake piston travel, fixing and repairing small items when necessary).
Must be able to work overtime as the need arises.
Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Previous railroad/switchman experience is a plus but not required.
Basic mechanical ability.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
Successfully complete and maintain and required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.
Work in extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.
Able to work in conditions with loud noises; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds overhead; occasionally carry weight up to 75 pounds up to 10 feet.
Regularly push-pull with forces up to 50 pounds.
Regularly use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning, holding with forces up to 50 pounds.
Regularly ascend and descend steps with a height of 28 inches carrying up to 50 pounds.
Regularly ascend and descend a 7-rung ladder while carrying up to 25 pounds.
Frequently bend, crouch, stand and sit for extended periods of time.
Able to walk and work on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances while maintaining balance.
