Hope the kids are in bed because he is moving 999 Knots and going to be here to load up your Christmas trees before you know it!! Thanks goes out to Kevin Thomson (one of our local pilots and an Air Traffic Controller) for keeping tabs on the big guy and relaying his position to us!

86 years ago when this airport was started, there is no way they would have imagined that we could sit here on Christmas Eve and track Santa’s flight all the way to our rooftops. We love this technology😂

We are excited to have this team out here! Worth noting: the National Park Service does have crew based at the airport but their office is not a public access point. If you have questions or would like more information, it’s best to contact the NPS directly. They have been really great about responding to feedback and inquiries.

The new base helps the rescue team react faster to not only national park rescues, but wildfires

The National Park Service's Search and Rescue Helicopter arrived at the Enumclaw Airport on April 23rd. The helicopter and crew are new tenants at the Enumclaw Airport and will be utilizing it as their primary Helibase as they provide support operations for the parks.

Training exercises at the airport to prepare for the upcoming summer season will occur on occasion during the daytime (between 9:00 and 4:00).

Along with providing rescue services to the Park Service, the helicopter and crew also support Wildland Fire incidents, Resource projects, and Backcountry Utilities.

Tonight from 6:30 to 9:00 at the Enumclaw Airport, the Greenriver chapter of the Washington Pilots Association is holding a General Meeting for their members (this event is for current WPA members and is not public) It’s an “Escape the Winter” themed social event to catch up with other pilots, sit down for a Hawaiian themed dinner, and watch a presentation hosted by John Smutny on the Dole Air Race. The WPA is an organization that promotes advocacy, general aviation, and community by staying involved with pilots, lawmakers, and airports around the state of Washington. We had a remarkable turnout at tonight’s Puget Sound Antique Aircraft Clubs January meeting, dinner, and presentation. I’m definitely having a “if you build it, they will come” moment and feel so excited that this many people would take time out of their busy lives to come out to the airport and talk about airplanes and swap stories. I feel like I’m hanging out in a time capsule 😉
As 2024 goes, we will get some activities going on out here that everyone in our community can participate in. Please keep watching to see what we have going on as we work to not only preserve & protect General Aviation but expand it to anyone who wants to participate.

No flying around the airport in this weather! We are just planning projects, shuffling through decades of photos, and waiting for the next high pressure system to move in. We hope you have a safe and warm holiday season, thanks for keeping an eye on what we are doing over here on the edge of town.

Huge thanks to Randy Petite for a deck of photos from his dad showing off some of that 1982 nostalgia and for getting the photos digitized.

I feel new to aviation and the work that goes into being an advocate for a fringe, slightly obscure activity. However, looking to the past, through conversations with friends and seeing photos like these, I feel a little relief seeing that I’m on a well traveled path. Mix that in with the gratitude I receive from conversations at the grocery store and watching the lights come on in even newer pilots and I have no regrets for taking on this project.

I’m optimistic that the photos and videos that we are capturing today will be shared, hopefully triggering the same fondness and familiarity for future generations of aviators.
