***UPDATED***

We apologize for the incorrect identification of the Coast Guard aircraft that came to HRJ. Thank you to many of our followers for correctly identifying the Eurocopter HH-65 Dolphin for us! Still a very impressive piece of machinery with many of the same capabilities, but used for shorter distances.

We were told previously the USCG only uses MH-60 - and have now been updated that the USCG will be phasing out the MH-65 for the MH-60.

Another interesting visitor to HRJ - the crew of this MH-60T Jayhawk from the Elizabeth City Coast Guard Station.

🚁 Aircraft Spotlight: MH-60T Jayhawk

The MH-60T Jayhawk, built by Sikorsky, is a powerhouse of versatility and endurance—designed to handle some of the most demanding missions in aviation. Operated by the United States Coast Guard, this medium-range, twin-engine helicopter is a critical asset for search and rescue, law enforcement, and maritime operations.

With a fleet of more than 45 upgraded aircraft, the MH-60T features advanced “glass” cockpits, modern avionics, and enhanced radar systems that allow crews to safely operate in severe weather conditions. Whether launching from shore-based air stations or deploying aboard major cutters, the Jayhawk is built to go the distance—literally.

From long-range rescues in rough seas to critical response missions along the coast, the MH-60T Jayhawk continues to prove itself as a reliable and capable workhorse in the skies. 🌊✈️

✈️ Future Aviators in the Making at Harnett Regional Jetport!

We love welcoming school groups to Harnett Regional Jetport! There’s nothing better than seeing students experience aviation up close and discover the exciting opportunities within the industry.

During their visit, students get a behind-the-scenes look at how a general aviation airport operates. Watching their curiosity take flight is what it’s all about! These tours are a great way to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences and inspire the next generation of aviation professionals right here in our community.

Every year the Kindergarten classes from Brookside Christian Academy come to HRJ on their "ABC Field Trip". They visit HRJ (A=Airport), the Bowling alley and Campbell University! What a fun day! Thanks to all of the enthusiastic kids, their very insightful questions, and the teachers for letting us be a part of their day.

📚✈️ Interested in scheduling a school tour? Reach out to us—we’d love to have your group visit!

We love unique and specialized aircraft here at Harnett Regional Jetport. Yesterday, our friends with the NC Forest Service utilized HRJ as their staging field and brought in the air tankers.

✈️🔥 Ever seen a firefighting aircraft in action?

The North Carolina Forest Service operates specialized Air Tractor AT-802 tanker planes that play a critical role in protecting our state’s forests and communities. These powerful aircraft are designed to quickly respond to wildfires, delivering precise drops of water or fire retardant to slow and contain flames from above.

With the ability to access remote areas and support ground crews, these tankers are an essential part of North Carolina’s wildfire response team—especially during dry and high-risk conditions.

Next time you see one overhead, know it’s part of a dedicated effort to keep our lands safe. 🌲🚒✈️

📍 What TFR 6/1823 Is

This is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) issued by the FAA over the Fort Bragg, North Carolina area, which includes airspace that could affect flights near Harnett Regional Jetport.

✈️ Why It Exists
TFRs like this are typically issued for VIP movement or security reasons(for example, when high-profile government officials are traveling nearby).

⏱ When It’s In Effect
The TFR has specific dates and times — generally shown in the NOTAM — during which aircraft operations in the designated airspace are restricted. For this exact TFR (6/1823), the effective period will be in the FAA NOTAM details (check the current NOTAM before flying).

🛑 What It Means for Pilots
Unauthorized aircraft, including general aviation, may not enter the TFR airspace unless you are explicitly cleared or authorized.

Typically, this means:
- You cannot fly through the restricted zone without permission during the effective period.
- You must check FAA NOTAMs before departure to confirm the exact dimensions and times.
- Violations can result in serious enforcement actions (fines, certificate action, interception).

📋 For Harnett Regional Jetport Visitors
If TFR 6/1823 is active on your planned flight day, you should:
- Review the FAA NOTAM for this restriction in your flight planning tools (ForeFlight, SkyVector, FAA NOTAM search).
- Plan your route to avoid the restricted area or obtain FAA authorization if necessary.
- Contact RALEIGH Flight Service or ATC for clarification and approval if your flight path intersects the restricted airspace.

📌 Quick Tip
Always check the latest NOTAMs immediately before flying (especially near Fort Bragg and surrounding NC airspace), because TFR details (times, altitudes, boundaries) can change up until activation.

Due to icy conditions the Harnett Regional Jetport will be closed today, Sunday, January 25.

Please be safe out there!
