DAMNATION CREEK TRAILHEAD CLOSURE: The Damnation Creek Trailhead along U.S. 101, about 7 miles south of Crescent City, and within Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, is closed 24/7 for construction on the Damnation Creek Safety Project.
We know this is a popular redwoods-to-the-coast stop. Our work intends to improve safety on a curvy stretch of highway that has seen a collision rate well above the average for similar facilities. The project includes roadway grade improvements, road widening, curve realignment, new guardrail, drainage improvements, and paving work to help reduce the frequency and severity of collisions in this area.
Construction is getting underway now, with the trailhead closure expected to last about three months. Based on the current schedule, the trailhead is expected to reopen sometime in September, and the overall project is expected to be completed this year.
Caltrans is coordinating with California State Parks and the National Park Service on visitor information. Park visitors interested in coastal trail access can use Wilson Creek Trailhead or Enderts Beach Trailhead from sunrise to sunset.
Please do not park in unsafe areas or enter closed work zones. For current highway information, visit QuickMap at quickmap.dot.ca.gov.
