Yesterday was calm, tranquil, and picture perfect from Pengilliy to Grand Rapids. Some sections of trail have finished repairs, Prairie River was so still, Pengilly and Calumet kiosk finished, and plenty of people riding their bicycle on trail. This morning feels the same..love the Mesabi Trail l! Get out on the trail this weekend or planting your trip this summer.

Mt Iron has a great spot to see mining, pavilion to sit and get shade and enjoy a snack, and history of locomotives. Yesterday the sun was shining and the water was flowing in the mine! Check it out!!

Wednesday is a great day to ride the trail! The sunrise was mesmerizing and the air is a little cooler this morning! Take in the fresh air and enjoy your ride on the Mesabi Trail!

Great River Energy Mesabi Trail Bike Tour is coming up fast!! August 1, 2026 and the route is Embarrass to McKinley. We have shorter routes also but you do not want to miss this event!! Sisu Heritage is doing an ethnic Finnish bake sales at start/finish line. Early Frost Farms will have a great rest stop and provide Polar Vortex Bars for dessert! Tour the NEW Pool and Sauna Haus at Giants Ridge for another great rest stop. Camp Esquamgama will have a rest stop with great activities in Biwabik! Then in our last rest stop, Iron Range Historical Society will showcase the knowledge of the area at their rest stop in McKinley. The trail has hills, but you will be amazing at the scenery!! We are ready fit your kid with a helmet, maps, safety stuff for kids, safety puppet show, Giant's Ridge is here promoting their biking experiences, Mesabi Recreation will check out bike, and so much more. There will be somwone here also that has bikes for kids that he refurbished!!

The wildfire is now taken care of and the trail is open from Gilbert to Virginia. Thank you to all the emergency response teams and dedicated personnel that contained the fire and kept everyone safe.

ALERT: Fire crews are still working hot spots between Gilbert and Virginia. The trail will be closed for the next day or so for safety. You can get from Biwabik to Gilbert then to Eveleth. Trail closed from Gilbert to Virginia.

ATTENTION: Please keep off trail between Virginia and Gilbert. There is a grass fire and will keep you updated when it is ok to be back on trail. Please stay away from area and reroute your ride. Thank you
