The trucking industry is the lifeblood of the U.S. economy. Nearly 70% of all the freight tonnage moved in the U.S. goes on trucks. Without the industry and our truck drivers, the economy would come to a standstill. To move 9.2 billion tons of freight annually requires nearly 3 million heavy-duty Class 8
trucks and over 3 million truck drivers. It also takes over 37 billion gallons of diesel fuel to move all of that freight.
Simply – without trucks, America stops.

Misuse and common practice-Are you breaking the law?

Common practice and most law on United States Highways is that the left lane is reserved for passing and faster moving traffic, and that traffic using the left lane must yield to traffic wishing to overtake. The United States Uniform Vehicle Code states:
Upon all roadways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic ...
It is also illegal in many states in the U.S. to use the "far left" or passing lane on a major highway as a traveling lane (as opposed to passing), or to fail to yield to faster moving traffic that is attempting to overtake in that lane.

How the ‘Mansfield Bar’ came to be known as the ‘Mansfield Bar’

The ‘Mansfield Bar’ is an underride guard which is an assembly hanging down from the bottom of the rear of a semi-trailer. It is intended to provide some protection for cars which start to run into the rear of the trailer. The bottom of the rear of the trailer is near head level for an adult in a car, and without the underride guard,
the only protection for an adult’s head in such an accident would be the car’s windshield. This came into use in the aftermath of the accident that killed Jayne Mansfield on June 29, 1967.

Things that make you go hmmmm?!?

In 2004, the state of Ohio enacted a law that states, “No person driving or in charge of a motor vehicle shall permit it to stand unattended without first stopping the engine, locking the ignition, removing the key from the ignition. …” The fine in Ohio is $150.

How to spot black ice

Visually, black ice can look like a puddle. Here are some tips on how not to be taken in by its disguise.
◾If it's below freezing outside there's always a likelihood that there will be ice on the road, so, firstly, it is important to be aware of the possibility of slippery road surfaces and drive carefully as a precaution.
◾If the car in front of you drives through a puddle and there is no splash, or it is not disturbed by the wheels passing through it, the puddle is probably black ice, so slow down gently to pass over it safely.
◾Even if the temperature gauge in your car is telling you that it's above freezing outside, there are still some areas of the road which could be below freezing. Take care when driving over bridges and flyovers, or through tunnels and on sthe road. Air temperature is generally lower in these places and they may still be icy when the rest of the road is not.

Vinnie is not just another pretty face at Night Hawk Inc.

• Having dogs in the office can bring co-workers together and enhance social interaction.

• Studies show that dogs in the workplace have a positive effect on employee, business and organizational health.

• You’ll take more mini-breaks to interact with a dog. These are great for reducing stress and more stress-busting than browsing the web.
