Last week I spent a week flying out of Buena Vista. After flying above Colorados 2 highest peaks (Mt Elbert and Mt Massive) on one day, I dropped down over a mile for a short stop at Leadville airport. This video captures my landing and takeoff there. Leadville airport (KLXV) is the highest elevation (9950') public airport in the US. Normally, it is either very challenging or almost impossible (due to very high DA) to fly an UL trike into this airport, but for my Maverick trike configured with an ATOS VRS190 wing it was quite easy. One of my recent flights while flying out of Buena Vista, CO took me over Colorado's 2 highest peaks. This time I flew my UL trike (North Wing Maverick 2 modified to fly the ATOS VRS190 rigid wing). Epic flight over incredibly beautiful mountainous terrain. Now after having flown trikes and HG in almost half of the states, I am convinced that CO has some of the best trike flying within the US.

Currently on a flying adventure at one of the best locations to fly in Colorado. This is the first time I am flying my UL trike out of Buena Vista. I flew here yesterday from my home field at Meadow Lake. This morning I explored the northern end of of the Collegiate range and ended up over Colorado's two highest peaks (Mt Elbert 14,445' and Mt Massive 14,432'). First pic is view from 16k on those 2 peaks. Unfortunately, I decided to forgo putting on my Himalaya expedition suit and instead used a few layers and wind pants and a light jacket. Not the best decision I made as I got quite cold. Dropped down 6000' to land at Leadville to thaw out. Otherwise, absolutely awesome flight.

Likely one of the best flights I have made in my North Wing Maverick UL trike with ATOS VRS190 wing. I wanted to see if I could take this trike above Pikes Peak. Not only did I make it, but I ended up almost a half mile above it.

Had an awesome flight over Pike's Peak. The weather on Sunday was perfect for doing this flight in my North Wing Maverick with ATOS VRS190 wing. Even up at 16,000' the winds were only 20 to 25mph. Yes, it was cold up there (about 25 deg) but I did have my Gerbing electrically heated gloves and my North Face Himalaya expedition suit so pretty toasty. This was the first time I have had this trike up to over 16,000' so a personal best altitude record with my Maverick.

Have you ever come back in from an awesome flight with very little turbulence and decided to do a touch and go only to find out some crappy air just moved in? Now the turbulence you find yourself in is near the edges of your comfort zone. Well, although not comfortable at the time, these are great learning moments that help build better piloting skills and home in on better ADM. This past Friday I had one such experience.

Sometimes you all of a sudden hit a patch of crappy air. Worse thing to do is panic. Just fly the plane the best you can.

This is my second video on initial test flights of the ATOS VRS190 wing on my North Wing Maverick 2 Legend. Includes extracted clips from early flights during Jan, Feb, and Mar of this year. I really wanted to get familiar with the wings handling, responsiveness and performance under most maneuvers before I venture into long XCs. All I can say is Wow, this is one incredible wing. I have flown dozens and dozens of different flexwings (both HG and trike) and nothing even comes close.
