What does having a safety mindset actually mean? It means doing it right, every time, no matter the outcome. We teach out employees that law is law and those laws are to be followed. We hold ourselves accountable, operating ethically and maintaining those high standards across the board.

Maintaining this expectation requires a significant amount of behind-the-scenes effort. It means ensuring our drivers are accurately managing their hours of service and logbooks. It also involves keeping every driver and fleet manager informed about—and fully understanding—new rules and regulations as they are introduced. A true commitment to safety means following the law precisely, even if it results in a delay, because without a strong safety and compliance mindset, a business cannot thrive.

In the trucking industry, how safely you operate makes a meaningful difference in the partnerships you build. That’s why we take pride in maintaining a very low CSA score. The CSA (Compliance, Safety, and Accountability) program, developed by the FMCSA, collects and analyzes data to ensure commercial drivers operate safely and comply with federal regulations. This data is used by insurance companies, customers, and regulators. A company’s CSA score can influence insurance costs, customer trust, and even how often drivers are selected for inspections.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the courage, sacrifice, and bravery of those who took part in D‑Day on June 6, 1944.

On this day, thousands of Allied soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy, facing unimaginable challenges to defend freedom and change the course of history. Their strength, determination, and selflessness continue to inspire us.

We remember those who gave their lives, those who were wounded, and those who carried the memories of that day forward. Because of their sacrifice, generations have lived in freedom.

Let us never forget their courage—and always strive to uphold the values they fought to protect.

Today, we celebrate an incredible career and an even more incredible person.

After nearly 40 years behind the wheel, Mel is officially retiring. Her trucking journey began years ago in a red Peterbilt, and fittingly, after 14 years with Simons Trucking, she is closing this chapter seated in a red Peterbilt once again. It truly feels like the circle of life in a remarkable trucking career.

Mel joined Simons in 2012 and quickly became a friend, mentor, and family member to so many throughout our organization. Known affectionately by many as "Grandma Mel," she captured the hearts of countless people with her wisdom, kindness, s***k, infectious laughter, and of course, her famous habit of wearing shorts when everyone else was bundled up against the cold.

Throughout her career, Mel demonstrated the professionalism, dedication, and character that define the very best in our industry. Those qualities were recognized in 2025 when she received the IMTA Professional Truck Driver Award. It was an honor that was well deserved and a reflection of the positive impact she has had on everyone fortunate enough to know and work with her.

While awards and accomplishments tell part of the story, Mel's greatest legacy is the lasting impact she has made on the Simons Trucking community. She has been a source of encouragement, friendship, and inspiration to drivers, office staff, customers, and everyone in between. Her presence has made our company stronger, and her influence will continue to be felt long after her final trip.

Mel, words cannot fully express how grateful we are for everything you have contributed over the years. Thank you for your dedication, your friendship, your leadership, and the joy you brought to our team every day. Congratulations on an extraordinary career and a well-earned retirement. We are so proud of all that you have accomplished, and we are honored to have had you as part of the Simons family. We love you, and we wish you nothing but happiness, adventure, and countless blessings in the journey ahead.

Happy Retirement Day, Mel!

Stay out of blind spots, never cut in front of a CMV, and give large vehicles room to turn.

Large trucks and buses have large blind spots, require extra stopping distance, and need additional room to make turns. Understanding how commercial vehicles operate can make our roads safer for everyone.

At Simons Trucking, safety isn't just a department it's a commitment made by every driver, every mile, every day. Our professional drivers work hard to operate safely and responsibly, and we appreciate motorists who help by staying out of blind spots, avoiding sudden lane changes, and giving trucks the space they need.

For more than 80 years, a lot has changed in trucking, but Simon’s Trucking’s commitment to safety never has.
Years ago, getting hired in trucking could be as simple as a phone call, a handshake, and being handed the keys. Today, the industry looks much different, and so do we.

As FMCSA and DOT regulations have evolved, Simon’s Trucking has evolved alongside them. What once started with simple hiring practices has grown into a professional onboarding process focused on safety, compliance, preparation, and accountability.

Today, every newly hired professional driver completes a multi-day orientation covering: Safety expectations, FMCSA and DOT regulations, Equipment standards, Company procedures and Real world operational training

From the introduction of Hours of Service regulations in 1937… to CDL requirements, drug testing, inspections, medical certifications, and ELD compliance, the trucking industry has continuously raised the bar on safety. And at Simon’s Trucking, we continue to raise our standards with it.

We don’t write the rules, but we follow them. Because protecting our drivers, our customers, and the motoring public will always come first. Safety and professionalism never go out of style.
