I-75 Weigh Station in Kenton County to Temporarily Close for Safety Improvement Beginning Monday, April 10
Two-Week closure will allow for the installation of new technology, including road/tire sensors.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 6 Office advises motorists of a temporary weigh station closure for commercial vehicles in Kenton County.

The weigh station is located on Interstate 75 southbound, approximately two miles north of the Crittenden exit (mile marker 168). This project will upgrade ramps to improve highway safety for all road users and provide a more efficient process for commercial drivers.

The station will be closed starting at 5 p.m. Monday, April 10, through Friday, April 21.

Crews will install a roadway loop and sensors at the weigh station. The new technology includes a ‘weight in motion’, or WIM, system. This system can make roads safer through intelligent enforcement. The new technology collects weight data (per axel and gross weight) of vehicles while traveling at highway speed. WIM scales can make weigh station operations more efficient by sorting out potential violators for static weighing and inspection while permitting vehicles of legal weight to continue without interruption. The WIM system also will feature a tire screening, which can monitor trucks for flat/worn tires. This will create safer roads for all by reducing the number of blown tires on highways.
Installation of the new system will occur from April 11 through April 14. Beginning Monday, April 17, crews will calibrate the system throughout the week, and training will be completed.
