Travel Update: TSA’s New $45 ID Fee — What You Need to Know

Heads up, travelers! Starting February 1, 2026, the TSA will begin charging a $45 fee if you arrive at airport security without a compliant ID (REAL ID–compliant license, passport, passport card, etc.).

This change comes with the launch of their new identity-verification system, and it’s important for all travelers to be prepared.

Here’s what this means for you:

What counts as compliant ID:
REAL ID–compliant driver’s license, passport, passport card, or other TSA-approved identification.

The new $45 option:
If you forget your ID, TSA can still verify your identity — but it will cost $45.

Expect longer processing times:
Confirm.ID verification can slow down your time at security, especially during busy travel periods.

Best tip: Check your ID BEFORE you head to the airport — and if you haven’t already, now is the time to upgrade to a REAL ID.
