Navigating air travel right now has become unexpectedly challenging, especially for those with upcoming flights. You’re absolutely correct—the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a nationwide suspension of TSA PreCheck and Global Entry programs effective 6:00 a.m. ET today, February 22, 2026. Such a drastic step is quite uncommon; even during the recent government shutdown last fall, these programs continued to operate. This time, however, the authorities are redirecting all resources toward standard security lanes to ensure the flow of travelers without major disruptions.

Implications for Your Travel Plans

Use of Standard Lines Only: Even if your boarding pass indicates “TSA PreCheck,” you'll now need to queue in the regular security lines. This means removing shoes, taking out electronics, and the full enforcement of the “3-1-1” liquids rule.

International Travel: Global Entry kiosks are temporarily out of service. Upon returning to the U.S., expect to join the standard customs and passport control lines, which may take longer than usual.

Helpful Tips for Navigating the AIRPORT

Plan Ahead: The typical three-hour pre-departure window for domestic flights is now more important than ever—aim to arrive at the airport 2.5 to 3 hours before your flight. For international trips, a four-hour head start is recommended.
