Ocean rates may have peaked. But don't count on cheap shipping just yet. 🚢

After a sharp run-up, Asia–U.S. spot rates are starting to ease following China's Golden Week.

As of October 1, market averages had reached:
- $8,346/FEU to the U.S. West Coast
- $11,523/FEU to the U.S. East Coast

Xeneta expects rates to soften through year-end, but remain elevated. A correction doesn't mean a return to February pricing overnight.

🚨 CBP Update: De Minimis is Out, Entry Type 13 is In! 🚨
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) just released a new proposed rule outlining how low-value imports will be filed moving forward.
While public comments are open until December 7, the direction is loud and clear — and compliance teams need to take note NOW. ⏳
Here’s the TL;DR on what’s changing:
📦 1. Entry Type 13 for Mail Shipments
A new, fully electronic informal entry pathway in ACE designed for international postal and parcel shipments valued at $2,500 or less.
📋 2. End of "Borrowed IORs" for Consignees
If you’re listed as a consignee (rather than the actual owner or purchaser), you will be
required to use a licensed customs broker to act as the Importer of Record (IOR) on entries under $2,500.
🔐 3. Bond Required for Release
No bond on file, no cargo release. Period. Single transaction or continuous bonds are now a must.
⚠️ Why E-Commerce Sellers Should Care:
If your business model previously relied on third-party "borrowed IORs" or gray-area clearance setups for small packages, holding that structure will become significantly harder and more risky.
Even though this is still a proposed rule, CBP tends to move fast once finalized. We're already helping our clients adjust their shipping & compliance workflows ahead of time.

Amazon's holiday inbound deadlines land this month. The date changes with how the shipment goes in.
For Black Friday / Cyber Monday inventory, Amazon wants it at their facility by:
AWD — October 14
FBA, minimal shipment splits — October 21
FBA, Amazon-optimized splits — October 28
Same event. The split option is a full week.
These are arrival dates, not ship-by dates. Miss the one your shipment is on, and the stock can miss the promo — and Prime badge eligibility for that week. The badge matters more than the placement fee.
If Q4 inventory is still moving, comment the ship method (AWD, minimal split, or optimized). We'll line it up against the date.

If you're still shipping to the US like the $800 de minimis rule exists, your landed cost is off on most orders. ⚠️
Duty-free treatment for low-value shipments is suspended — for all countries. A $50 parcel is no longer automatically duty-free. It now needs a real entry, and may owe duty, tax, and fees.
Two things that matter now:
1️⃣ If you haven't re-priced, margin is leaking on every direct shipment.

2️⃣ "Ship small and often" is often more expensive than consolidated bulk entry + a US warehouse. 📦
Sellers who switched early are lowering unit cost. Everyone else is paying the old model on every order.

Peak season volume is rising, and booking lead times on South China outbound lanes are expanding. To mitigate supply chain bottlenecks, we’ve already locked in ocean container slots for both pre- and post-holiday schedules.
