Since 2002, the City of Fort Collins - Government Art in Public Places Pedestrian Paver project has worked to incorporate granite pavers with drawings by Fort Collins youth into City sidewalks.

The City selects designs through an open call. Each young artist receives an honorarium for their work. The City then sandblasts the designs into granite pavers and places them throughout Fort Collins during sidewalk improvements.

Here is a paver featuring Birney Car 21 placed in 2016 and drawn by Logan Musci, age 9. It can be found near the intersection of Washington and Mountain Avenues.

That's rightβ€”you can try our historic handcar that Trolley volunteers Chuck Bade and Tim Hindle assembled! This beauty started life as a Fairmont Model S2 "speeder" sometime between 1938-1953. While dismantling an old flatcar, Chuck discovered the original chain sprocket and our maintance volunteers transformed it into a fully operational handcar in 2024.

We're clearing out Bay 3 so you can pump your way back and forth through the full length of the Trolley Barn. It's a piece of railway history you can actually power!

Come pump some history, sip cocoa, hang out with Santa and Mrs. Claus and celebrate the holidays with the Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society volunteers. Visit FortCollinsTrolley.org for more information.

Such a wonderful evening at the Annual Trolley Volunteer Banquet!

Last month, we gathered to celebrate the incredible volunteers who make the Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society run. From operating, conducting, and maintaining our cherished historic streetcars to running the depot, serving on the board, and countless other roles, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do.

The evening was filled with volunteer bingo, a delicious catered dinner, and inspiring words from Board President Jim Bowers and Board Member/Depot Manager Maree Johnston. Volunteers shared stories and memories from the 2025 riding season, recounting memorable moments and experiences on the rails.

It's rare to have so many of our dedicated volunteers together in one place, and the room was buzzing with laughter, camaraderie, and shared passion for preserving Fort Collins' streetcar heritage.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to ALL our volunteers who give their time and energy throughout the year. Fort Collins would not have our beloved Birney Streetcars without you!

Ideas were brewing outside of the historic Trolley Barn!

These talented high school students were presenting their volunteer recruitment strategies to the Fort Collins Trolley as part of the Old Town Throw Downβ€”where creativity meets community impact!

The Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society relies on passionate volunteers to keep our historic streetcars rolling through Old Town, and these future business leaders are tackling a real-world challenge: How do we attract and engage the next generation of volunteers to preserve this beloved piece of local history?

Huge thanks to all 300+ students participating in last week's 3rd Annual Old Town Throw Down, representing schools from across the Front Range, and to the 30+ Old Town businesses and 50+ community judges making this DECA Inc. practice event possible.

These students are sharpening their skills today for district competitionsβ€”and potentially Nationals in Atlanta, GA!

We can't wait to hear all the innovative ideas that emerge from this collaboration. The future of our community is in good hands.
