Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️ During our trip to Ireland, we stayed two nights at Dromoland Castle Hotel & Country Club, located near Newmarket-on-Fergus in County Clare. It is the the ancestral home of the O’Briens, Barons of Inchiquin, who are one of the few native Gaelic families of royal blood, and direct descendants of Brian Boroimhe (Boru), High King of Ireland in the eleventh century.

Today, it is a as a five-star luxury hotel with a golf course. We ate delicious food, played Skyjo and drank hot chocolate by the fireplace, swam in the pool, admired the garden, and enjoyed a nature walk (and ride; you can request a golf cart) around the grounds. Excellent service and relaxing stay at Dromoland Castle!

Christmas Eve on board the had a lot of offerings on the schedule and the one we found most surprisingly delightful was JIM HENSON’S INSPIRED SILLINESS. It’s a brand-new puppet show for Princess Cruises from the brilliant mind of legendary puppeteer Jim Henson, brought to life by The Jim Henson Company and director John Tartaglia. This original production featured the ship’s singers and dancers performing classic Jim Henson sketches with live puppetry! In between each act, Jim Henson’s son, Brian (an accomplished puppeteer and Muppet Director in his own right) starred in video vignettes (as a puppet version of his dad) to teach about the techniques and comedy ideas we were about to see. We’re big fans of The Muppets and enjoyed the silliness (which yes, involved explosions because of course it would)! We spoke with a few of the puppeteers after the show and they told us they had received puppetry training in Los Angeles. It was truly well done and Jim Henson would have probably loved that puppetry was shared on the ship.

For our Mom's 80th Birthday, we traveled to Ireland and spent seventeen days traveling the country! In this video, you will see sights from Killarny National Park, the Rock of Cashel, Powerscourt Waterfall, Gallarus Oratory, Inch Strand, Dromoland Castle, Celtic Nights, Bunratty Castle, Blarney Castle, Kilkenny Castle, National Museum of Ireland (Archaeology and Natural History), The Book of Kells Experience, Trinity College's Long Room, Titanic Belfast, W. B. Yeats' grave, Belfast (Albert Clock, C.S. Lewis Square), Cliffs of Moher, Christ Church Dublin, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and the Kenmare Stone Circle. Thanks to Butlers Private Driver Tours Ireland for driving us around to all of these amazing places.

We didn’t have a ton of time to see Kilkenny Castle, but our stop was long enough for us to walk the grounds, see the first floor rooms, and take our Mom’s picture in the garden. The castle was built in 1260 and has been rebuilt, extended and adapted to suit changing circumstances and uses over a period of 800 years. While we were there, locals were taking advantage of the view by hanging out in Kilkenny Castle Park. If you are visiting Kilkenny, the Kilkenny River Court Hotel has great views of the castle!

Inside the National Museum of Ireland’s Archaeology Museum, you’ll find The Cross of Cong, which was made in 1123 to encase a fragment of the True Cross that was brought to Ireland and displayed in different places around the country. A large polished rock crystal on the front of the cross at the junction of the arms and shaft was intended to protect the relic, which does not survive. A Latin inscription on the side of the cross translates as ‘by this cross is covered the cross on which the creator of the world suffered’. The Cross of Cong is one of the greatest expressions of Irish craftsmanship in the twelfth century. The cross is also one of the great works of European art of this time.

Happy from Oasis Broom! 🇺🇸 We are on an Ireland adventure to celebrate our Mom’s 80th Birthday! While waiting to board a flight from Boston to Dublin, we did some from the hotel and got the chance to see Delta Air Lines’ Airbus A350 aircraft taxiing in. Delta is the official airline of Team USA on the road to the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games Los Angeles 2028.
