Last month we hosted our biggest “Lunch & Learn” yet, this time with the team at .

We work at Bradford quite often and already knew a few of the project managers, but it was so great to finally meet some of the people we'd only ever spoken to over the phone or on LinkedIn.

This is the 4th Lunch & Learn we’ve done and I’ve really been enjoying them. They're casual, there's good food from a local spot, and it's not some big formal presentation. We can actually sit down, have a conversation and get to know everyone on a more personal level.

Of course, we talked about what we do at Customs, but I also wanted everyone to get a better idea of what it's like to work with us…We try really hard to be easy to work with.

For us, that means:
✓ Being on time
✓ Honest and clear communication
✓ Getting estimates back within 24 hours
✓ Giving our clients access to before-and-afters
✓ Labeling all of our photos so they're easy to find

And if a project manager, contractor or trade has a particular way they need things handled, we're happy to cater to their needs and work within their system.

We're not sure how this floor was damaged, but after years of repairing yacht interiors, there are a few usual suspects:

→ Vacuum cleaners being pulled along.
→ Luggage being rolled instead of lifted.
→ Furniture being moved around for detailed cleaning.
→ Metal water bottles and other heavy items being dropped.
→ Or just years of general wear and tear.

Fortunately, damage like this doesn't always mean replacing the flooring. In many cases, a professional touch-up repair can repair the damaged area so it blends back into the surrounding finish.

Some of the most common damage we see aboard yachts happens on corners and edges.

→countertop edges
→cabinet corners
→door edges
→table corners
→chair edges
→trim on toekicks
→bedframes

These areas naturally take the brunt of daily use.

Luggage, vacuum cleaners, carts, tools, shoes, and even belt buckles and radios seem to find their way into these vulnerable spots.

While the damage itself may be small, repairing it is often more difficult than repairing a flat surface.

One reason is that edges have significantly less surface area for repair materials to bond to. Unlike a flat panel, there is very little room to build, blend, and secure the repair while maintaining the original shape and profile of the edge.

Corners and edges also catch light differently than flat surfaces. Even the slightest imperfection in the curve, shape, color, gloss, or grain can become highly visible because the edge creates a natural shadow line and reflection point.

Sometimes the smallest damage presents the biggest challenge—but those are often the repairs we enjoy the most.

Years ago, when I was a special education teacher, I had teaching assistants in my classroom every day.

While I might've been the teacher on paper, I couldn't have done my job without those assistants. We all had different strengths, and every one of us played an important role in helping our students.

That’s exactly how I feel about Customs.

Yes, Chris and I own the business, make the decisions, and I oversee the work, but Caren and Leah are every bit as important to what we do.

Caren has an incredible eye for faux finishing thanks to her background as a trained fine artist. We work really closely together on color-matching and faux finishes, and we’re constantly bouncing ideas off each other.

Leah also brings something equally valuable to the team. Having worked as a Chief Stew herself, she really understands how the crew and guests use each space onboard.

This helps us think of the best way to tackle certain repairs.I trust our team and love how everyone brings different skills to the table.

Many of our repairs are a team effort, and I believe that's one of the reasons we're able to deliver such a positive experience for our clients.

Lunch & Learn, Fort Pierce edition!

This was our second Lunch & Learn at Shipyard, after hosting our first one at their Dania Beach location.

This time, we headed up to Fort Pierce to meet with a few of their project managers.

Even though we’ve worked on vessels there before, we’d never really had the chance to get to know some of the project managers properly.

I’m so happy we did because we had such a great time. There were lots of great questions and plenty of good conversation.

I love the people we've met through social media, and I feel like everyone in our little corner of LinkedIn is so supportive. But nothing beats meeting people in real life.

Well... maybe it is a little extra fun when someone says, "I've been following you online!" and then you finally get to meet them in person. 😊

Significant damage occurred to a lower guest cabin nightstand.

This issue can be a concerning when the yacht discovers it, espeically before a planned trip.

What did we do ↴
-protect the area
-sand the imperfections
-fill various spots using our resin stick and hot knife
-airbrushed
-apply multiple layers of sealer and topcoat
-after cure time, buff the area

After a few days the areas was repaired and the vessel could maintain thier planned departure for the bosses trip.

Last year, one of our clients was in California when there was an accident in the master cabin...

A plug-in oil diffuser had been unplugged and left lying on its side, damaging the painted edge of the nightstand.

Normally, we'd be there to carry out the repair ourselves, but the yacht was on the other side of the country and I was at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

So, we did the next best thing and jumped on WhatsApp Video Call, exchanged plenty of videos and talked through the repair step by step. Of course, we always recommended a trained touch-up professional do the repairs.

The captain bought an airbrush, we mixed up the paint, sent detailed instructions, along with a few other supplies and sent it straight out. We'd worked on this yacht before, so we already knew the exact paint mix and other touch-up tools he needed. Captain had loads of paint experience in his past and was eager to do the repair.

He absolutely nailed the repair! In fact, when the yacht returns to Fort Lauderdale, there will be no need for us to redo it.

If you turn on the sound in the video, you'll also see he had a great sense of humor about the whole experience. 😆

I was really happy we could help, even though we couldn't be there in person.

P.S. After seeing the damage oil diffusers have caused on yachts over the years, it's safe to say I'm not their biggest fan, lol.

We do interior touch-up repairs on superyachts.

But now and then, someone on land catches wind of what we do out on the water.

Recently, we were called to a luxury home after a contractor accidentally scratched this side panel while installing a wine fridge. It was a tight fit, and unfortunately, these things can happen.

The contractor found us through a carpenter we'd worked with before onboard a few yachts… Even though we spend all of our time working on yachts, it's always nice to see our reputation reaching beyond the yachting industry.

We were happy to help him out when he was in a bind, and he was so grateful that he passed our name on to a few other contractors.

We'll be sticking with yachts, but it's a wonderful feeling to be recommended by someone.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who has ever recommended us or passed our name along. A lot of our work comes from personal referrals, and we never take that trust for granted.

Top 5 super-yacht surfaces worth protecting with Paint Protection Film:

1. Dining tables
Silverware, décor, jewelry , placemats and daily use can leave behind scratches, dings and marks over time.

2. Bar tops
Glasses, bottles, ice buckets, citrus and spills can gradually stain or damage both wood and stone surfaces.

3. Bathroom vanities
Oils, brushes, lotions, jewellery, and water droplets can leave scratches, stains, and shiny or dull spots that cannot be removed with cleaning.

4. Coffee tables
