Hi, Jameson! When you are 16 years old, you can travel by yourself with no restrictions as long as you have some sort of photo ID such as a school ID or a state issued permit or driver's license.

Amtrak also has something called unaccompanied minors. Youth ages 12-15 may travel within certain daytime hours. An advance reservation is required, the youth and designated adult must be at the station an hour before the train to complete necessary paperwork and accompany the youth to the train. Another designated adult must be present at the destination to accept the youth, sign the documents etc. This is available for select stations and trains only, based on staffing and the travel restriction hours.

If a youth between 12 and 15 is planning to travel, contact the Amtrak Customer Service Dept at 800-872-7245 or stop into a staffed station.

About a month ago, we pointed out that Amtrak has begun naming the sleeper cars. While nearly all we've seen have been named after states or national parks, it is only appropriate that Amtrak give tribute to Mr. Pullman.

Which named sleepers have you come across in your travels and railfanning?

Amtrak’s corporate headquarters are located in Washington, D.C., in a building owned by the National Guard Association of the United States. The national passenger rail corporation moved to this site in the fall of 2017 after spending decades housed directly inside the historic Washington Union Station complex.

Located just one block west of Union Station, several floors of this beautiful building serve as the core administrative and executive home for America's Railroad.

I (Amtrak Amy) love helping passengers book their train travel, answer questions and provide reassurance for things unfamiliar. The icing on the cake is the little ways they show their appreciation.

The time is now for booking holiday travel. Contact the station so we can get your plans finalized!
