🚨⚠️ PUBLIC SERVICE WARNING FOR PWC & JET BOAT OWNERS — LEE COUNTY, FL 🚤🌊

Lately, this has been happening for almost a year now—and today, it happened again.

Someone with little to no PWC experience purchased parts from us and, just two hours later, called us looking for technical help diagnosing a NO-START issue.

The problem?

His customer is paying him to learn.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with learning or gaining experience. We all had to start somewhere. But there is a BIG difference between working on boats and actually knowing how to properly diagnose and repair Personal Watercraft or Jet Boats.

Please be careful who you trust with your PWC or Jet Boat.

❓ Ask questions.
🔍 Verify their experience.
🔧 Know who is actually working on your favorite weekend toy.

Just because someone can turn a wrench or has worked on boats doesn't necessarily mean they have the experience, training, or diagnostic knowledge to properly repair a PWC or Jet Boat.

💰 Don't pay someone to learn on your PWC or Jet Boat!

Your watercraft is a significant investment. You shouldn't have to pay for someone else's learning curve while they figure out how to diagnose your machine.

At the end of the day, there is a big difference between replacing parts and properly diagnosing a problem.

🚤 Experience matters.
🔧 Proper diagnosis matters.
💯 Knowing who you trust with your PWC or Jet Boat matters.

Ask questions. Know who is working on it. And don't be afraid to ask how much actual PWC or Jet Boat experience they have.

🌊 Protect your investment—and choose your technician wisely.

What Does Marine Service Labor Really Cost?

We thought we'd share a little perspective on marine service labor rates.

After 26 years in the PWC and jet-boat service business, we also understand that our customers deserve to know what they're paying for and how our pricing compares with the industry.

Here is a general look at typical U.S. marine service labor rates for 2025–2026:

Type of Service Typical Labor Rate
General / Independent Marine Shop $120–$150/hr
PWC / Jet Ski Specialist $125–$175/hr
Established Marine Dealership $150–$200/hr
Factory / Dealer Specialty Work $175–$225+/hr
Mobile / Dockside Service $150–$200/hr
Emergency / After-Hours Service $200–$300+/hr

Our current shop rate is $185 per hour for jet boats. Our labor rate for PWC is $120.00 per hour.

So where does that put us?

We're not the cheapest shop, nor are we trying to be.

At $185 per hour, we're right in the range of established marine dealerships and specialty facilities, and we're still below many factory-level and specialty service rates.

But here's something that's easy to overlook.
A shop labor rate is not a technician's hourly wage.

That $185 per hour or even the $120.00 per hour rate has to support the entire operation required to provide professional service that you are demanding and expecting based on overall surveys.

That includes things customers don't necessarily see:

Technician wages, payroll taxes, and insurance
Shop rent and property expenses
Business and liability insurance
Diagnostic equipment
Specialized PWC and jet-boat tools
Manufacturer software and subscriptions
Utilities and shop operating expenses
Equipment maintenance and depreciation
Time spent diagnosing and researching unusual problems
Non-billable shop time
Warranty work and rework when necessary
Parts sourcing and supplier coordination
Office, scheduling, and administrative time
Credit-card and payment processing fees

And, ultimately, a reasonable profit that allows the business to continue operating and serving customers.

None of that changes simply because a particular repair takes longer to diagnose or because a part takes several days to arrive.

And that's particularly important with PWC and jet boats.

We aren't working on the same vehicle every day doing the same repair over and over. We work on different manufacturers, model years, engines, jet pumps, electrical systems, and configurations.

Parts availability can vary dramatically, and some repairs require considerably more diagnostic work and research than others.

You're not just paying for the time a technician spends turning a wrench. You're paying for the knowledge and experience behind that hour—the ability to diagnose the problem, identify what the machine actually needs, source the correct parts, and complete the repair properly.

We know that nobody likes paying a labor bill. We don't expect anyone to. And, nobody likes to go the dentist either!

But we also believe it's important for our customers to understand what they're actually paying for when they choose a professional specialty marine service business.

We're trying to provide experienced, knowledgeable service and do the job right.

After 26 years, that's still what matters most to us.

And we sincerely appreciate every customer who trusts us with their PWC or jet boat.

Have a blessed day everyone! See you on the water!

The Power of Personal Touch in Boating 🏆

Big box marine dealers might brag about inventory, but nothing matches the first-name service you get from a local, family-owned shop. At Wavetech Powersports, every handshake means something and every repair is backed by decades of lived marine experience.

We see it every day: customers walk in needing more than just a part or a tune-up, they need a guide, an advisor, and a neighbor who genuinely cares. It’s not just about fixing boats, it’s about powering adventures and building trust for the long haul.

Myth: Boats Only Need Maintenance After a Problem 🚫🛥️

Waiting for a breakdown before giving your boat some TLC? That’s a classic mistake! Preventive care is the real MVP when it comes to performance and longevity.

Regular checkups stop small issues from turning into expensive repairs. Engine, hull, and even trailer maintenance should be on your calendar, not on your emergency to-do list.

1. ✔️ Prevents surprise breakdowns and keeps those weekends on the water stress-free.

2. ✔️ Retains resale value by maintaining top shape inside and out.
