Does the thought of moving to a new home make you feel stressed and anxious? Hiring professional house movers can make your moving process a lot easier.

When you’re getting ready to move, you need a specialist. But that does not mean that you have to hire the first person that comes up. You need to make sure that the company you get in contact with has a license and a team of professionals, and GH Movers are a great example of it. If you are going to get help, you have to do it from the best. We put a list together of the reasons why you should hire help on the big moving day.

Here are our top 5 reasons why you should hire house movers instead of attempting to do it on your own.
1. Moving Companies Carry Insurance

Under federal law, moving companies must offer various insurance options:

Basic Carrier Liability: Required by law, this liability coverage is free and based on weight and pays up to 60 cents per pound.
Full Value Protection: This is also required by federal law and must be purchased. This pays for the market replacement value of an item or with a similar item.
Separate Liability Insurance: This coverage is optional and pays for the insurance amount that you purchased (minus basic carrier).
By hiring professional house movers and having liability and protection coverage, you don’t have to worry about damage to your expensive items and finding the money to have it repaired or replaced.

2. Safety

You won’t have to lift a finger.

Professional movers have the skills and necessary equipment to move large, heavy, and fragile items without damage to your possessions or injury to themselves.

Moving companies have a team of experts that know how to properly lift and carry items out of your house or apartment. Trying to move your couch down several flights of stairs could result in injury.

3. It’s Cheaper

House moving equipment isn’t cheap and gathering the materials takes time.

You’ll need moving dollies, furniture pads, packing tape, cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, a rental truck, gas, and insurance. Don’t forget to thank your moving helpers, whether they are friends or family, for helping you. Even if it’s with food or a small gift, that’ll cost you too.

Although these individual expenses aren’t much, they add up. It also takes time to gather everything and it’s unneeded stress on an already stressful day.

4. They’re Fast and Efficient

There’s no doubt that the experts are faster and more efficient, it’s what they’re trained to do and they have the experience.

Movers know exactly how to get your furniture and other valuables out of the house without damage and how to fit everything into the back of the truck.

5. It’s Easier

Let’s not forget that it’s easier to hand the job over to a moving company.

On moving day, you can enjoy these positive aspects:

No stress: Hiring professional house movers or a removal company is not only easier but it will ease your stress and help to avoid those unnecessary arguments on moving day.
Comfort: You’ll experience peace of mind knowing that everything is being taken care of and you don’t have to risk injury.
More Time for You: Moving everything yourself is an all-day process but with the help of a moving company, you have more time on your hands.
Leave It to the Professional House Movers

Don’t let moving day cause you unnecessary stress or risk of injury.

Prepping to move? There are a lot of steps to check off in between deciding that you want to relocate and successfully executing it. From packing and planning to figuring out how on earth you’re going to unpack and organize everything once you’re finally done, you’ll have to juggle quite a hefty to do list before you can finally sit back and relax in your new digs. And then there’s moving day itself. Even the best of planners can find moving day to be overwhelming and exhausting, but fortunately, there are ways to make it go at least a little bit easier. Follow our moving day tips for advice on how to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Keep a running list of all the little things that have to get done Certain moving-related jobs have a way of piling up as soon as the truck is on its way. Did you take out those last trash bags? Clear off the gunk in the shower that you swore you would get to before leaving? Empty the fridge and freezer? These small but important tasks often get pushed aside while you’re focused on packing, but can leave you scrambling at the last minute if you’re not careful. Instead of frantically trying to remember all the little things you have to get done on moving day, keep a running list going that outlines everything you’ll have to do. That way, you can prioritize your time and wake up a little bit earlier if necessary so you have time to get everything done before you leave.

Have cash to tip your movers
If you hired a professional moving company, you’re going to want to be sure to have cash on hand on moving day for tips. About $20 per helper is sufficient, though you may want to have a little bit more cash available in case you are really blown away by the service. You can always also just ask to add it the final bill on your credit / debit card. They will greatly appreciate it.

Put into place kid or pet arrangements early in the morning
Having kids or pets running around can complicate moving day. It can also be dangerous for little ones—two legged and four. Ideally you’ve already figured out plans for your kids or pets prior to moving day, so it’s just a matter of putting those plans into place early. If you have a friend or family member who will be watching them for you, schedule a pick-up or drop-off first thing in the morning so you can focus entirely on everything else that needs to get done. If your kids or pets will be sticking around, do what you can to keep them busy and out of the way (iPads and chew toys will go a long way).

Pack a cooler
Moving day generally requires a lot of heavy lifting, which in turn requires a lot of energy. It’s easy to get distracted and forget to eat or drink enough, which is why having a cooler packed with waters and grab-and-go snacks is a good idea. Fill it up with high-protein, low-mess foods, such as bags of nuts and dried fruit, pre-made sandwiches, and protein bars. You may also want to consider packing a little bit extra for your movers. You’ll be very glad you have your stocked cooler available when you start to feel exhausted mid-way through the day.

Don’t forget your moving essentials bag
A moving essentials bag—also called a “go” bag—is a small duffle, box, or suitcase you pack up with anything you know you’ll need on moving day and the day after, as well as crucial documents and valuables you don’t want to put on the truck. Include things like phone chargers, toiletries, medications, and a couple extra sets of clothes. Keep it in your car or another designated place where you can ensure it won’t end up getting loaded for transport.

Make sure your phone is fully charged
You probably won’t have a lot of time to sit on your phone playing Candy Crush on moving day, but you should still be conscious of having a full charge. You never know if you might get lost on the way to your new place or need to coordinate timing with your movers. Keep your phone plugged in the night before your move, and store your phone charger in your essentials bag so in the event you do drain your battery blasting your moving day playlist, you can easily charge it up again.

Leave out some basic cleaning supplies
Hopefully you’ve already done your deep clean, but even so you should still keep basic cleaning supplies available for any unexpected touch ups. A broom, dustpan, and container of sanitizing wipes should be sufficient. Just like your essentials bag, keep your cleaning supplies somewhere they won’t get loaded on to the truck—your car or a closet should be fine. Once the boxes are cleared out and the space is empty you’ll be able to see if any last-minute cleaning needs to get done.

Do one last walk through
Anything you leave behind might be difficult to get back, so do a thorough walk through of your home and keep an eye out for anything you might have forgotten. Open all of your cabinets and check every single one of your closets (including the very backs of shelves) to make sure that anything you plan to take with you is packed and ready to go.

There’s always a bit of a challenge to moving day. While it’s impossible to anticipate everything that could go wrong, following the advice above will help make sure that you’ve at least got your bases covered when it comes to the obvious stuff. If you need to, ask a friend to come lend you a hand just on moving day itself—even if you’ve got movers doing all the difficult labor it’s still incredibly helpful to have a second set of eyes on your to do list.

Check out our additional moving tips for everything you need to know to take the stress out of your move (at least as much as you can).

How To Prepare for a Move with a Professional Moving Company

You’ve booked your moving company, set a move date, and you think you’re ready for the big day. Now what? Here are a few helpful hints on everything you need to prepare before your moving company arrives.

1. Clean.

A few weeks before your move date, commit yourself to tackling one cleaning project per day. For example, start with your bedroom. Clean out your drawers and closet, and donate any items that you won’t wear again (hint: If you haven’t worn something in the past year, you won’t wear it again). Not only will cleaning lighten the load for your movers, but you’ll save money on packing materials and associated labor costs.

2. Purchase packing supplies.

Unless you’re purchasing packing supplies directly from your moving company, you’ll want to stock up on boxes, bubble wrap, Sharpies, and packing tape long before moving day. You’ll probably need more packing supplies than you think, so anticipate a few runs to the packing supply store (or a few shipments from Amazon).

3. Label boxes wisely.

If you’re packing everything yourself (as opposed to leaving it to the movers), be sure to label your boxes in mover speak! For example, label every moving box with the room in your new home that the box belongs in. Also, label which boxes contain fragile items by writing “FRAGILE” clearly on all sides of the box, and write “LOAD LAST” on boxes that you’ll need immediately. Your movers will thank you!

4. Check in with your moving company.

Call your moving company to review the origination-to-destination plan and schedule before moving day. Make sure that both you and the agent in charge of your move have the correct moving date and any contact information that you’ll need to reach one another. Trust us – it’ll save you from last-minute moving days gone awry!

5. Prepare your appliances.

Believe it or not, moving companies will not disconnect your appliances – like your refrigerator, your washer/dryer, or anything connected to a major utility – for you. To save time on moving day, be sure to disconnect your appliances in advance.

6. Pack a “first night” box.

This box, included in your “load last” boxes, will contain things that you’ll need to make your first night at your new home easy and comfortable. You’ll need things like cleaning supplies, a new shower curtain, pillows/blankets/bedsheets/towels, toothbrushes, toilet paper, and a first aid kit, just in case!

7. Gather important paperwork… and keep it in a safe place!

Most moving companies recommend that you keep important paperwork like your birth certificate or Social Security card directly on your person on moving day, rather than the back of the moving truck. Here are a few key items to keep an eye out for:

Bill of lading

High-value inventory form

Lease/mortgage documents for your new and old addresses

Drivers licenses and passports

Birth certificates and Social Security cards

Vehicle registration and auto insurance information

Medical records/kids’ doctor’s office contact information

Find more instructions on how to pack your important paperwork here.

8. Have a plan for kids and pets.

On moving day, make sure that you have a plan to keep your kids and pets out of the way of the movers. It’ll ensure that no one gets hurt, and that the movers can efficiently and effectively get the job done.

So, there you have it, folks! With these tips, you should be well on your way toward preparing for your professional packers to arrive.
