New DOT flight delay rules take effect October 19, 2026 — and they could affect what airlines provide when your flight is delayed or canceled.

The new rule changes how certain disruptions are classified, including some unscheduled maintenance issues, medical emergencies, unruly passengers, cybersecurity attacks, and other events that may no longer be considered within the airline’s control.

Why does that matter? Because whether a delay is considered “controllable” can affect things like meal vouchers, hotel accommodations, and other assistance.

If your flight is delayed or canceled, make sure you ask the airline what caused the disruption and what assistance is available.

And remember — delays affect your ground transportation too. At VP Executive Car & Limo Service, we track incoming flights and adjust your chauffeur’s airport arrival based on the flight’s actual progress. If your airline changes your flight number completely, just let us know so we can make sure we’re tracking the right one.

Newark Airport is testing a new way to move eligible travelers through the TSA identity checkpoint.

New automated e-gates are now being tested in Terminal C for qualifying United Airlines passengers enrolled in TSA PreCheck Touchless ID. Travelers enter the gate, have their face verified and continue toward screening—without presenting a physical ID or boarding pass.

Passengers and their carry-on bags must still complete the regular TSA security screening.
