To all my friends who are NOT es**rt/pilot cars operators, I have a plea.
🙏🏼Please take a minute and read this lenghty post. It may save a life as pilot/es**rt is a dangerous job and regrettably we've lost good people due to the dangers.
⚠️Our job is to keep you safe, and warn you of the oversized load not hinder your commute....
⚠️FYI...our route is assigned and approved by the state. And we CANNOT go off route. Our speed is also dictated by the state.
⚠️If you see a high pole in front of the load, keep in mind that load may be HEAVY and tall. HEAVY requires extra time to stop before they reach a hazard⚠️🚨🦺
⚠️Everyday at work we are cussed at🤬, flipped off🖕🏼, and ignored as is every other pilot car driver. We have a running joke that says "If we don't get told we're number one (🖕🏼) at least once a day, we're not doing our job right!" And yes we think you are number one also.🖕🏼🖕🏼
⚠️We do this job for a variety of reasons. First off we love the work, love the travel and the freedom that comes with it, but we do it because someone needs to.
⚠️Companies order very large items like control houses that go to power plants or generators and even though the traveling public gripes about us being in the way, you don't seem to mind turning on the lights💡when you get home without a thought about what makes them work. These large objects have to be delivered, and when they are, they deserve a high level of respect to keep people safe. The few minutes we hold you up from your day are small in comparison to destroying a bridge and closing roads indefinitely while repairs are made.
⚠️The rear es**rt, whose job it is to protect the back of the load and to be the "eyes" of the driver who cannot see behind him due to the size of the load, is not just being an as***le when cutting you off in traffic. There is more than likely a hazard on the shoulder or on the roadway which would be damaged or someone hurt or killed if we can't change lanes in a hurry. Please give the rear es**rt some space.
⚠️And know that as traffic builds behind the load, we are actively looking ( and communicating between us) for a wide part in the road or an extra lane to allow the traffic to safely pass, again we CANT GO off route. There's absolutely no need to flash your lights at us, swerve at us or honk your horn.
⚠️I ask everyone to please take just a fraction of your time when you see amber lights flashing to be patient and understanding. I know you think we have no business being on tiny back roads, but the permit we get from the state says we have to travel on a very specific route. It's really a simple formula, we can lift a wire and go around a tree, but we can not lift a bridge, so when we are tall we go where we can, not where we want to.
🙏🏼If you have teenage drivers, teach them to respect all trucks on the road, especially the oversize. It won't be taught in the drivers manual or in drivers ed and it's not a good lesson to learn the hard way.
😊Thank you for your attention, Please share with anyone who drives, with my kindest regards to your safety and well being. 🙏🏼
Anybody can cut and paste because I did copy this from a friend of mine
