And then there were three.

This came as a surprise, so we counted them again and still three. We tried counting in French, un, deux, trois… then backwards in French, which we found out is how you summon a Belgian accountant.

We briefly considered whether one might simply be two buses standing very close together, but an independent inquiry conducted by a licensed badger confirmed that all three were separate buses. The badger then demanded sixpence, declared the inquiry invalid and disappeared into a hedge.

And now for something completely different: the history of our newest bus, RM 1010.

RM 1010 entered service with London Transport in 1962. After 25 years carrying Londoners about, she went on to work in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Yorkshire and Scarborough, was converted to an open-top bus and eventually crossed the Atlantic in 2009. Most recently, she lived at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach.

And now she’s ours.

We think she’ll make a very happy home here in Frederick, alongside the other two. Although we shall be counting them again tomorrow, just in case.

YOU SOLD THEM OUT, SO WE ADDED MORE!

Our September tours filled up much earlier than expected, so we’ve added several more chances to climb aboard:

Saturday, September 5 at 4:00 p.m.
History on the Double

Sunday, September 6
Pages & Pastries
Monocacy Battlefield Tour, back after proving extremely popular last time

Sunday, September 13
History on the Double

Saturday, September 26
AARCHways to the Past, our Black history tour
Reptile Adventures on the Double, a family-friendly adventure for the kids

Before September begins, we’re also heading to Baltimore for KittyCon on Saturday, August 29. Only a couple of tickets remain for that one, so now would be an excellent time to stop thinking about booking and actually book.

More tours, more dates, and considerably more opportunities to sit upstairs on a vintage London bus while doing something far more interesting than whatever you had planned before.

The MDD team is on a road trip, and we’ve landed in Virginia Beach!

Dan and Amanda are currently gathered in the car watching the new episode of Pete and His Bus, as all serious business professionals do while sitting in a parking lot hundreds of miles from home.

But why are we here? Well, that would be telling 😉

On Saturday, Rebecca celebrated her birthday in the only sensible way possible: aboard a vintage London double-decker bus, roaming Frederick with her chosen band of birthday accomplices.

There was laughter, sightseeing, questionable behaviour on the top deck, and absolutely no attempt to explain why a British bus was involved. Frankly, birthdays have suffered from a serious shortage of double-deckers for far too long.

A very happy birthday to Rebecca! Thank you for letting us be part of the celebrations. We hope the rest of your year is every bit as brilliant, ridiculous, and unnecessarily tall as Saturday’s adventure.

If you’d like to hire the bus for your own birthday celebration, email us at [email protected].

Every other September tour has sold out, so gather your friends, consult the group chat and book before these disappear too.
