🍂 Turning leaves, countryside views, and a remarkable story right on Frederick’s doorstep.

Join us on Sunday, November 8 for our Monocacy Battlefield Tour. Climb aboard our vintage London double-decker and enjoy an autumn afternoon exploring the landscape where “the battle that saved Washington” unfolded.

A National Park Service guide will take us through the events of July 9, 1864, sharing the stories of the soldiers who fought here and the families whose homes became part of the battlefield. Discover how Union forces delayed the Confederate advance, buying precious time for Washington’s defenses.

With the season’s changing colours adding to the scenery, it’s a lovely excuse to bring a friend, pull on a cosy layer, and explore a little closer to home.

Maryland Double Deckers is pleased to announce the arrival of our new London Transport destination blinds. These magnificent specimens contain dozens of destinations, several places that no longer exist, and enough fabric to cover a small municipal building.

Unfortunately, what was intended to be a straightforward inspection has developed into a rather serious geographical incident.

Dan, having attempted to establish the correct order of destinations, has somehow managed to wrap himself in the entire London bus network.

He is currently believed to be standing in Cockfosters, with his left arm in Tooting, one leg in Ponders End, and a considerable portion of his dignity somewhere near Pratt’s Bottom.

The Ordnance Survey has declined to assist, stating that Dan is not technically a recognised geographical feature.

A formal application to Transport for London for a new route through his trousers is being considered. The blinds will eventually be installed on our buses, although this may require the services of a cartographer, two qualified engineers, and a priest.

However, the matter has now been formally referred to the Squirrels in Tiny Hats, also known as the Department of Advanced Situational Nonsense, who have appointed a subcommittee of three squirrels, a clipboard, and a particularly senior walnut.

Following an emergency meeting, the subcommittee has proposed a seven stage extraction procedure involving a stepladder, fourteen yards of string, a ceremonial teaspoon, and a man from the ‘city’ who apparently knows about these things.

The first attempt was abandoned when the squirrels accidentally unwound the entire route to Cockfosters, causing Dan’s left trouser leg to arrive in Tooting three hours ahead of the rest of him.

A second proposal, involving the careful application of butter, was rejected on financial grounds after the Department of Treasury Squirrels discovered that nobody had submitted the correct dairy requisition form.

The senior walnut has since recommended that Dan remain exactly where he is until Thursday, when a specialist team will attempt to separate him from the London Borough of Barnet using a small crane and a strongly worded letter.

The subcommittee has declared the operation a complete success, despite having achieved absolutely nothing. Further announcements will follow once the situation has been geographically resolved, or the walnut has reached a decision.

The walnut is currently on annual leave.

Meanwhile, aboard the Maryland Double Deckers… Cindy and Amanda had been staring rather intensely into one another’s eyes for several minutes.

“What’s going on over there?” asked a concerned passenger.

“Staff meeting,” replied the another.

“Looks rather serious.”

“Oh, terribly. They’ve been trying to decide who’s in charge.”

“And?”

“Neither will back down.”

“Good heavens! How long has this been going on?”

“Since April.”

“APRIL?!”

“Yes. We had a vote in June, but they both voted for themselves.”

“Well, who’s driving the bus?”

There was a long silence.

Management would like to assure passengers that the situation is entirely under control, although nobody has seen the driver since Tuesday.

A little rain wasn’t going to spoil this special day!

Yesterday may have brought plenty of rain to Frederick, but it certainly didn’t wash away the smiles, laughter, or celebrations!

We had the pleasure of being part of Jerry and Ainsley’s wedding day, and despite everything the weather threw at us, it was a wonderful occasion filled with happiness.

A huge congratulations to the newlyweds from all of us at Maryland Double Deckers! Wishing you both a lifetime of love, laughter, and hopefully a little more sunshine!

Meet Pitz, one of the newest additions to the Maryland Double Deckers tour guide team!

Having spent time on the radio, Pitz is no stranger to a microphone, and as you can probably tell, he’s quite the character!

Here he is getting into the spirit of things for our Legends & Lore tour, dressed as one of the ghosts said to haunt Frederick’s historic Weinberg Center.

But what exactly did this particular spirit get up to that the staff at the Weinberg still have rituals they follow to this day?

Well, we’re certainly not going to tell you here. That would rather spoil the fun, wouldn’t it?

Frederick's darkest tales, told atter dark aboard our vintage London double-decker bus.

This October, climb aboard Legends & Lore for an evening of haunted places, local legends and stories with endings that might stay with you a little longer than you'd like.

As we travel through Frederick, you'll hear tales drawn from local histories and old accounts at the very places connected to them. From the top deck, you'll see familiar streets in a different light, with autumn and Halloween displays setting the scene.

Bring the friend who loves a good mystery. Bring the one who claims she doesn't believe in ghosts. We'll see how everyone feels by the end of the hour.
