Sometimes the most expensive repair is the wrong diagnosis.
A customer (and friend) recently called me after receiving a $1,100 repair estimate for an electrical issue from a shop that won't be named here. After taking the boat back home, she called me. I arrived at the property, took a look, and within a minute found a tripped circuit breaker. They were going to charge her $1100 to flip a switch.

That's why I always recommend getting the problem properly diagnosed before approving major repairs.

With the rise in humidity this week, we are seeing a rise in "no-starts" at the boat ramps. When your boat sits, the ethanol in today’s fuel pulls moisture out of our humid Florida air. That water sinks to the bottom of your tank, and the second you hit the throttle, it heads straight for your injectors. It's called Phase-separation. Prevent it by checking your fuel filter, emptying your water separator, and checking for cloudy fuel. Also, keeping your tank full gives less room on the tank walls for the humid air to form condensation. Be safe out there on the water and if you have any trouble, just give me a call and I will meet you at the ramp.

Don't forget to change your lower unit gear oil and check your impeller before you run your boat the first time this season. A little maintenance can save you a lot of heartache on the water.
