Galena Park Train

The Washburn Tunnel is a two-lane underwater motor-vehicle tunnel connecting Galena Park and Pasadena, two suburbs of Houston, Texas. Completed in 1950, it travels north-south underneath the Houston Ship Channel. It was named after Harris County, Texas Auditor Harry L. Washburn. It is the largest and first toll-free vehicular tunnel in the Southern United States.

Please be advised that the Washburn Tunnel will be closed from 10 p.m. - 4 a.m. daily, beginning Monday, August 5th to Friday, August 9th. During this time, Texas Department of Transportation will conduct its biennial inspection of the Washburn Tunnel, which is required by the Federal Highway Administration for all tunnels within the United States. UPCOMING WASHBURN TUNNEL CLOSURE:

The Washburn Tunnel will be closed for 10 days, beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 23rd to 7 a.m. on Thursday, August 2nd. During this time, crews will be conducting in-depth maintenance to the Tunnel lining, as part of the Washburn Tunnel Concrete Repairs project. Please use alternate routes.
